1970 T Coupe value?

Looking for a value opinion on this car. 1970 T, 130,000 km unverified. Car was imported form Germany to Canada mid 80's. E engine installed (2.2l) MFI removed, Zenith carbs installed. Engine not turned over in 8 years, but was "running when I put it away" Sparse records

Has S seats - 1 with poor reupholster job. door pockets and parcel shelf butchered with speakers. Dashpad is pooched. No radio. Euro car, no sunroof, no A/C

Outside - wrong signal lenses, lights, mirrors? It looks like two coats (lousy) black paint over what I believe is original Albert Blue. No paint tag. Front suspension pan replaced, decent job there. S valance. Wrong spare, no tools. No visible rust, except 2 small bubbles around rear glass - plus whatever is hiding under the cruddy black paint.

I think it may have been "restored" in Germany, painted black before importing. Owner thinks it may have been resprayed black when car was keyed. Owner had it recently appraised at $37k - which I guess is good for insurance purposes, but seems out to lunch for market value?

My plan would be to strip it down completely, make it Blue again. Find all the rust hiding.

From your description, car fits into Hagerty's condition 4 slot pretty well. Non matching engine, needing complete re paint, and other incorrect or missing items, make it hard to lift to condition 3. Cost wise, th.e current valuation is about right.

Low $30s, IMO. Color change is pricey to reverse, although Albert (or Ossi) is a great color. I would suspect rust in rear shelf, rear seat buckets, and would probe rear suspension area with an icepick (given permission).

I've got a black '70E in similar condition (non-matching E engine, bad paint, poor seat recover, wrong mirrors, some rust, nice Fuchs, etc). Basically it needs a complete restoration. I'd be surprised if it was worth $30k. The extent of the rust and engine condition would really make a difference on this car. I assume it was put away for a reason. Tired engine?

Yes - the engine is the reason I find the valuation high. If it was running I feel like it might be mid $30's. I figured $25 - 28.

I agree - will go back for a second look at these areas. Given the car has lived in Germany and Canada, rust is probably lurking

In my experience, once you can see rust at the rear window corners on a coupe, it's widespread underneath. Hoping your candidate is an exception!
