87 Carrera pricing help please!
My wife has owned her dark gray metallic 87 G50 Carrera for a couple of years (color code is actually Granite Green metallic, but it looks gray to everyone that sees it) and she has loved it. However, without boring everyone, the kids are in a new private school which is far away from home (she also has a GMC Yukon) and we are moving into a smaller home in that direction. So, we have to make room and she volunteered that hers would be the one to go
![]() I have seen prices on the G50 Carrera's anywhere from low 20s to 40s. This car is not perfect for sure. Here are some details to give the knowledgeable folks on here some info: Car has about 155k Granite Green with Black interior Complete Top End Rebuild done (at considerable expense ![]() Various other maintenance type things done at that time also. Paint is rough in places. On the hood, there is a couple of quarter-sized areas where it looks like the top coat has come off. Some scratches on the rear passenger quarter. On the passenger side of roof, the paint looks dull. A friend says it looks like it was covered with a car cover and left in sun. Not sure, but seems plausible. Interior is pretty clean. Small cram in dash near the vent. Some wear on seats and a 2 inch slit on the seam of one of the seats. Headliner is black, but has a tear at the back seat area. Otherwise interior looks pretty clean. Car shifts really well (I have a 915 and a 901 car, so it is really kinda fun to jump in this and see how easy it is to drive), starts right up, pulls extremely strong, color combo looks great. Has factory big spoiler (whale tail). Has factory 6s and 7s that are really clean. Also have a set of 7s and 8s that are currently on the car (I think they look much better and fill the car out perfectly). So, I would appreciate some advice from the group at large, as to reasonable value for this car. In no particular rush to sell, so what is a price that would attract buyers, without being a fire sale? Appreciate any help you can offer and will in no way be offended at the guidance. It is what it is and she has really enjoyed it. If I lose a little money on it, it still will have been worth it to us both ![]() |

Hagerty #4 condition is $18,000. #3 is $30,000. Granite Green Coupe will go for a bit more. The negatives are mileage, and it needs a possible repaint and interior work. I'd say $25,000-30,000 considering the rarity of the color combination and the recent engine work. Id consider your car a 3- condition.
The paint and interior flaws are probably a $10k reduction in value. |

I'll play. $27-30k if you want to sell it. Maybe list for $32k and see what happens.
But I would find a way to keep it. |

87 Carrera pricing help!
Thanks to you both. I wondered what impact the paint imperfections would have, as car feels mechanically so sound. Is it worth me trying to repaint the affected areas? Would I get the return on that or am I best to just sell to someone who knows how to tidy it up themselves?
At 30k, I would get back what I have into the car, so that is good news (if indeed someone would pay that for it). So, do you think I should sell here or eBay? I see lots of guys here who ask for advice or advertise their cars (which are also listed on eBay). To be honest, I am not a fan of eBay. However, would like to get the best market value from the car, if I am going to sell it. Either way, it is going on the market within the next couple of days and am sincerely glad for the guidance provided by this community. Thanks! |

In the low 20's , the car will sell in hours if not minutes.
The top end rebuild by a reputable shop and the maintenance records are major selling points for potential buyers. If you fix up the interior, I would say start at 35k. Don't repaint. The paint sounds fine for a 27yr old car with original paint. Last edited by pmax; 09-08-2014 at 09:43 PM.. |

Give it a very thorough cleaning inside and out and a polish, take nice pictures and make a very objective and syatematic text for the ad....anything else is pretty much wasted time, imo. P.s. dont forget to tell your wife that she is amazing. Letting her car go over yours just like that.....she deserves to be treated! Last edited by christiandk; 09-08-2014 at 09:48 PM.. |

Thats too funny. I'll make sure she does not see the post! Appreciate your insight about leaving the paint as-is. I certainly could not do anything about it myself. Just checked the file on the car from when we got it and there is a lot of service paperwork on the car, including PPI from when previous owner bought the car, so will be sure to mention that in the Ad. |

I would start by posting it for sale here to maximize having an enthusiast consider it rather than tire kickers. Ebay may give you a bigger exposure but there is alot of sales that dont go thru due to bidders failing to follow thru. If you present it with great detail and most important the right price, it will sell to someone that wants it as opposed to a dealer, tho if a dealer has no problem paying what YOU want then all's fair.

Ebay is touch and go. Some have good luck with it, others not. Here, people are actively looking for a car like yours. It will sell in no time on Pelican, if not priced crazily. Plenty of coupe buyers out there. Having said that, there are some low ball dealers on Pelican as well. Stand by and watch your PM inbox grow. I wouldn't be surprised if people have already contacted you.
I would do as Christian suggests. Clean it up, take some nice photos and let the new owner do what he/she likes to it. Believe me, that car won't last long for sale. You have what everybody wants. Good luck! I love the color BTW. Nick

Follow up question. Should I leave the 7s and 8s (black center) wheels on the car or reinstall the stock 6s and 7s (black and polished finish) that came with the car? Nathan |

7 & 8's worth more than 6 & 7's, as wheels. Doubt it will affect the value.
I'd put the 6's and 7's back on and sell the 7's and 8's separately. Make some extra cash. And you're on the west coast to boot. Should sell quickly.

List it here at $35k. I would expect it to sell somewhere above $30k in a week or two. Out original wheels back on it.

As suggested, have posted at $35k. Any suggestions or advice about content of the Ad is always welcome. If you think I missed something or explained something wrong. No offense taken here, but do want a very clean transaction, with no surprises! Thanks all for the help. |
