Question: Was This 928 A Steal?
Question: Was This 928 A Steal?
I've been debating with myself whether or not to jump into the Porsche Pool. A friend has a mid-80's Carrera 911 which can be fun when it's not scaring the hell out of me with its tendency towards "front lift". Frankly, I cannot for the life of me understand why they're priced so outrageously. Another friend has an '89 928, that shark-nosed beast is more my style, capable of being driven hard and fast while feeling glued to the road. The prices of the 928's seem far closer to reality as well to me, just in a simple most-Porsche-for-the-money sense. I have driven a couple of 944's as well and enjoyed them immensely despite their being somewhat underpowered (and a totally different conversation as well as a "can of worms", or so I've been told), so I am leaning toward finding the right 928. Regarding the listing below (as well as in general) can you gents kindly point out potential red flags? In that spirit, I ask you Scholars Of Stuttgart if I missed out on what may have been the perfect Porsche for me, this completed listing on Ebay. |

That went for a great price for sure, BUT: 928's are complex and very expensive to maintain. Best to do some reading and obtain the "Buyers Guild" put out by Excellence Magazine each year....It deals the features for each year as well as current values........G'luck

Pretty ok deal. Original, good year (better if euro), booklets. Negative, auto (imo). But there are many cars like this.
And is Duckworth a celeb? Charlie Sheen, yeah! |

Yes, it was a great deal. The guy could have gotten more out of it in an auction. It looks pretty clean. No way you would find that car in SoCal for that price.

If it's truly in good condition, it was a STEAL at $4900.

It's only a good deal if you want an automatic.

Automatics go for substantially less than 5 speeds these days.

Automatics are pretty much the name of the game if you want a USA spec 928, with more than 80% with an auto - I have heard that number is actually closer to 90%. So chances are it will be an automatic 928 for sale 9 out of 10 times here in the USA.
