If it's not for sale, why are you asking?

patina 10-28-2014 08:06 AM

Thanks again to all that have contributed to the thread. I have a pretty good scope on the early 911 and 930 market but the SC market seems to be pretty volatile right now so I was looking for some real-world values.

Interior is close to immaculate, I will post some photos later this evening or tomorrow.

Time to renew my agreed value insurance policy and want to make sure I'm not cutting myself short.

Great driving cars? Heck yeah. But a 100,000 mile example with a repaint is not gonna fetch "mid $30's all day long" unless the buyer is either out of touch with the market, must have that exact car, or is too impatient. The only way an SC will fetch mid $30's TODAY is if it is low miles, original paint/no wrecks, and has all updates like head studs, chain tensioners, etc.

Someday the car in question will go in the $30's, but then a low mile original concours SC will hit mid 40's or 50. But that's down the road. Good luck to the original poster who has a nice car. But don't get too carried away with thoughts of of huge payday. Way too many BS artists with lack of funding out there. The market will speak.

Sorry but I'm referring to the UK market here and it has spoken to me twice. Honestly - the US cars are currently under those values and they are very real.

Agree about originality though .

I bought my uk SC in England for £16k two years ago and it was a bargain .

So "all day long" does apply to the UK - I actually posted a link to this car in uk as there are people there who can't find anything but rust for £20k.

There are very few "good" SCs out there further afield.

Total 911 uk also valued these cars and they are actually north of my guesstimates.

Totally agree originality helps value (whether it should or not).

Having said that I agree the car in question isn't guaranteed to be good.

A similar car to your brief description was recently moved on for north of £30k sterling. Whether it was better than yours I don't know, but I agree it was original and had no rust.

The seller wasn't dreaming but maybe had good connections I don't know.

Cluskera 10-28-2014 12:17 PM

Out of interest what's a 1996 varioram 993 would you say? No rust, 100k miles. Complete history...values?

This would be a real discussion. I have no idea about that car, but it has gone down more than $20K in weeks. It might be a nice car though.

Sold my 104,000 mile original paint 83SC coupe for $35,000. Do not understand what you are talking about......

Are you saying the early 911 , turbo market is not volatile ?

Really ?

Just wanted to take a second to respond to this.

Of course the early 911 market and turbo market is volatile. I am a little more knowledgeable on those cars and what adds/detracts value on certain models. I never really thought of this car as much more than a driver. I see what appear to be very nice SC's listed for mid 20's and I see other, much rougher cars listed in the high 30's. No-one seems to share what the cars are actually selling for. It appears some mid-year and SC owners are trying to ride the early 911 wave of quickly escalating prices. My question is, are these cars actually selling? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I have been approached by several people on the street who have expressed interest in buying this car and when asked what I would take for it I find myself frustrated responding "I don't really know what it's worth."

The other day I was discussing my policy with my agent and he suggested we value the car at 35k, which sounded absolutely absurd to me.

Both of these factors lead to my creation of this thread. Hope I have justified myself to you, complete stranger, on this internet messaging board.

Macroni 10-29-2014 05:47 AM

What is the cost difference on insurance from $20,000 to $30,000? $50 to $75 dollars a year.

Matt Monson 10-29-2014 07:29 AM

I really see no problem with this thread. Too many pitchforks in this forum these days. Someone asks what their car is worth and the assumption becomes they are asking as a means to market the car preceding a future FS. Maybe they just to be sure they get full market value next month when they go to sell. So what? Or maybe they are in the same position as the OP. Can we be a little more welcoming to people who aren't Marketplace regulars?

Patina, you sound like a 'dealer' to me.

I own three Porsche's personally (all registered in MY name), my boss at work is an avid collector of 930 turbos (all registered in HIS name) and I occasionally help him buy or sell something out of his personal collection. I am by no means a dealer. If you are ever in the Charlotte, NC area I would be happy to show you some of his beautiful cars :)

Fair enough. Will take that raincheck.

Going back to the 69, the pricing is even more volatile than the sc.
From Hagerty, average values went from 40k to 50k in the span of a few months.

Here's my 2c on the SC.
Those with no issues, immaculate everything, and everything (yeah AC too) working do sell in the 30's. On the other end, bargain SC's in the mid teens sell quickly too.The rest live in the 20's and sell according to condition.
Unique colors sell higher and quickly even with issues.

You should plan a trip to Pinehurst for the Concours next May, it is a fantastic event with tremendous Porsche presence and the Ingrams will be hosting an open house.
