What the heck happened to 1974 cars? In my Porsche history and buyers guide of years ago, it said stay away from 1974 models because of different problems. Now headed to $150,000? Holy cow! Times sure change! You would think that a rich guy would want one of the more reliable, faster models like the 993 or SC or the 3.2 Carrera.

wow! THAT is crazy to me. Beautiful car, but NOT an ultra low-mile example. I hope the original rear deck lid comes with it as that duck ain't fitting perfect. And is that other gap supposed to be like that?

Good for him. That car is sweet and well cared for. So many were beat and ragged from these years, and there aren't many around. Welcome to the new world.

Agreed, this is surprising. Although it is a very very nice example a 74 Carrera is not very special compared to an early turbo.

Dear lord, Do you know ANYTHING about these cars? Seems you should have at least minimal knowledge about something before you criticize it.

I know we might have a difference in opinion on acceptable gap tolerances. But please carry on with you smart-a** comments. I am sure they make you feel like you a building the Pelican community.

I'm not trying to be rude, but do you think the same thing when a 50's Ferrari sells for tens of millions? I mean you could buy a 360, 430, and a 458 for less than a million total and they'll run circles around a 250GTO. Could make the same argument about a 73RS vs a 996.

People are paying good money these days for the 74 and 75 Carreras as collector cars. That has very little to do with their performance compared to more modern versions. I'm with you in that $125k seems like crazy money. I don't think that this one sale necessarily sets the market for these cars.

Nate, I'm not being rude. I have owned Porsche cars for 30 years. It's just that most of that time a 1974 911 was a Porsche that you just did not buy. Even on this very site there is a tech article about how these cars (74) with the 2.7 motor had a long list of engine problems. I have books that say to avoid the 74 911. I'm just surprised , that's all. Nick

Who owns a collector car for the practicality of it??? These cars are rare, and that's all that matters.

1974 is the cut off for lots of events these days. This car would be awesome on some of the European alpine tours. As a classic to have fun with that is also rare this car to me was worth the price. No one is buying as a day to day driver and any engine problems when new 40 years ago are now not important.

Again, good for him. It looks like it was a labor of love, and that he was a good care taker. God Bless.

How about the '76 Carrera with the 2.7 RS engine?
