Insurance value? 1988 911 3.6 cabriolet
Hey there Pelicans,
I have a modified 1988 911 Carrera cabriolet with 76k miles that I’m considering putting on a stated value collectors insurance policy. Since it’s not stock I figured I’d ask the Pelican brain trust what your thoughts are regarding a reasonable insurance value. Here are the details: - Grand Prix white with navy blue top. Car has been repainted and overall is in good condition. Original manual top in decent usable condition. Blue leather interior with sport seats. - Clean Carfax, no issues. - ’97 3.6 euro Varioram engine with ~40k miles installed by Instant G. Heat is functional and it has a fairly quiet Triad exhaust for street use. - G50 trans with Quaife TBD. Refreshed with with new syncros and TBD added ~12k miles ago. - Ruf wheels with fresh tires. - 993TT big red brakes. - A few other odds and ends – 2nd oil cooler, 930S steering wheel, H4s, refreshed suspension, etc. - Almost $30k was spent at Instant-G ~12k miles ago adding the 3.6 engine/suspension/wheels/etc! I appreciate any feedback you can provide regarding the value of the car. Below are a few pics. Thanks! ![]() ![]()

As you only just bought it .... surely fair purchase price, would be your indicator.
The previous owner only had it for a relativly short time, and bought it as it currently is, do you know what he paid ? Nice car by they way (reason I remember its' history). |

Does anyone else care to offer up an opinion on a reasonable insurance value for this car? I'm planning on talking to the insurance companies this week.
Thanks for any help you can provide! |

Mine is near perfect and I put a replacement cost of 50k. That's probably high but the premiums really didn't change much. They know these cars live in garages in nice neighborhoods and are rarely, if ever, left unattended. It shouldn't cost much to cover.

The very first 911 cab I saw in person was in Chick Iverson's showroom in Newport Beach... it was red. Trends, fads, and flavor of the months come and go. I was there, I know what I fell in love with and honestly, finding a pristine red one isn't as easy as you may think.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you posted as I want to let you know that your car is one of the cabriolets that inspired me to purchase a cabriolet in the first place! Your car is stunning! |
