912 which way outlaw or resto?

Hi Guys looking for your opinion regarding my project . I have a 66 912 stripped ready for work to begin but i am still unsure which way to go .. outlaw or a classic resto. In the past all my cars have been taken back to classic but there is something in me that feels i need to mix this one up .

Car has matching trans and motor but flared arches and has been lowered by the PO the car sits nice as is and has the Magnus feel to it.

Just interested i your thought .

Go back to the way it was. Then when you sell it , it will be worth a lot. Unless you are a rich dude.

With those wheels and that color I think the choice is obvious.

It's your car- have some fun with her. Porsches are made to be driven and to have fun with!

Just 1 question: Are you doing this one for your WALLET or for your HEART? The answer will lead you down the right path... ;-)

Almost nothing is as lame as the term "outlaw".

Kinda hard for me to outlaw a matching number SWB, so my vote is original.
So get rid of those fugly flares!
If its going to be a street car, a 912 has enough power to keep up with traffic and have a little fun in the twisties.
As far as value, an original SWB 912 is probably worth more than a 912-6.

356s are outlaws, not 911s and 912s. It's the "Magnus feel" that I think is lame. I like some of what Magnus does but he neither invented modding Porsches nor patina.

Gents thank you for your thoughts a mixed bag really. Firstly I will retract the word outlaw as it seems to aggravate some of you pelicans , but which word should I use custom? hotrod ? Gruppe r? Racer? Magnus? Let me know ....

I am not driven by car values but the cars themselves (excuse the pun!) so in options

Please give me an idea of the price of

1.a standard 912 resto car 100% rebuild ?
2. Street racer up rated suspension, trans, no flares , motor 4 cylinder
3. Street racer up rated suspension, trans, st flares , motor 6 cylinder aka magnus feel.

I'm sure I'm not the first to ask these questions and probably not the last but with the current market prices the answers to the questions must alway vary.

Many thanks jonny d

That car appears too far down the 'mod road' to bring back.* As far as ultimate value, #2 and #3 numbers depend 100% on the execution.

* Disclaimer: if the Carrera flares and ST fenders are fiberglass, then by all means take it back to stock look.

I'd go back to narrow fenders and do a 911R type outlaw. I know it's been done but I still love them.

1) PROPERLY restored 912's have easily been selling in the 50-70K range, I know, I sold my restored 68 for $68,000. Rare color helped, but that was a couple years ago. Saw one close, but not as nice as mine (and color change from red) sell for over 70K recently. Key word there is properly/as original
2)See # 1, nothing irreversible, but unless you are going to put it stock, expect less maybe 40k tops. That includes putting the motor back to something streetable, no wild cams.
3)tough sell at 20-25K when done, just sell this car as is, sell your motor, and buy a similar condition 911T, you will be way way way way way ahead

Sounds like you've got the makings of a pretty cool hotrod, I'd put the 6 in her! Either way have fun and enjoy! And keep us posted!!
