Time to separate the dealers and the individuals?
The "Cars for Sale" section has been getting mighty crowded these days with the boom in the markets for these cars. The board is mostly flooded with dealer cars. The “call for price” really takes the cake too.
IMO its time to separate them and maybe have a board for private sellers and one for the dealers?

I agree, but it's going to be hard. A Craigslist type of flagging would have to be implemented, and there are always gonna be dudes who bend the rules on what is a dealer and what isn't (in their mind). Would be interesting, but would be difficult to control.

The "Call For Price" listing just is too much for me. The rules are pretty basic. This is a really good forum with some great people. If you cant even respect the rules then maybe you should flog your wears elsewhere?

Agree but perhaps instead of different forums just a separate tag that allows for easy discrimination between the two.

Some way of knowing before opening an ad would be nice. Dealer ads are a total waste of time.

+1. The dealer ads are too much these days. There's also a bunch of guys that I think are individuals that sell lots of cars. Perhaps limit free listings to 2 cars per year? Any more, or if you are a dealer, you need to step up to a commercial account.

Why not just enforce the rules, no price take down the add.

In addition to having a price and location in the ads, the forum rules state that you can only have (4) active "for sale" ads at a given time. I don't think there needs to be (2) separate forums, just an active admin on the current one.

honestly, just take down the ad for the guys who don't post a price. i personally think that would be more frustrating to them then anything. because if its a good add, it should take time to write up so, just delete the ad and grind their gears, like they do to us!

This is definitely a great idea. It would have made the process much easier finding the car I was looking for. The rules are strictly enforced over on the NSX forum and the for sale section is better for it there.

Take it a step further. Make them post the price at the top or in the title so we can see before opening the ad. A link to a dealer ad with a price doesn't count either. No price = no ad.

I miss the days when people could comment on the ads. Sure, some people got out of hand. However, I learned a lot from the posts and many people were saved from a bad purchase because others knew the history of a car.

+1,
if our host were willing to make the changes, I would propose a display a la Rennlist Vehicle Marketplace: Price, Mileage, Location (instead of color) and type of seller (private vs. dealer) Easy "quick-scan" format is efficient for the voyeurs (myself included ) and will incentivize (note: not force, as that is more difficult) listers to put the pertinent info up front. On a related note, I haven't tallied it but a number of posters in the Cars for Sale section seem to be stretching the rules on the allowed frequency of bumps.

+1. I would love to be able to post honest and factual comments on some of the cars I have seen that are described as clean, rust free examples.
