Paintless Dent Repair for a 1987 911

I recently contacted a local PDR company about pulling a small (dime size) dent out of my passenger side door. I figured this would be a good time to do it because I have the interior door panel off to repair my door lock operating rod. I was told he could not pull the dent due to it not having clear coat. He said it would crack the paint.
Is this true?

His reason does not sound right ...BUT I have a very good PDR guy who has done a bunch of work for me on my daily drivers and other classics. Had him come out to do a couple of dings on the door of my SC and he was not able to get them out. Said the sheet metal is so much thicker than most vehicles out there and was not able to work the dents out. I was disappointed but it is what it is.

Dingy

Some PDR Co's.
I have heard have a tiered rating system of their people, from 1-5.
Maybe you got the "2" guy?
If the ding is in the "Nader Bar" area, (the door's crash reinforcement area),
then yes, it might crack when he uses the metal for leverage when pushing the
dent out.
Not sure if clearcoat has much to do with it. Call a different person, there are usually lots to choose from in most Metropolitan areas.

Thanks for the help. I will try another guy. If anyone has any recommendations, I am in the Chicagoland area (Arlington Heights).
Next time I will try posting in the correct section

My '88 has some small creases in both doors from parking lot incidents. The paint is unaffected, and you can only see them when you look at the door from an angle.

I assumed I would have to skim & repaint the doors to make the go away -- something I am loath to do on a 100% original paint car.

Any chance PDR could do something about these?

We have a great local independent guy here. He has done things that I thought couldn't be done. Stay away from the franchise guys. Find out who the high end dealerships and collector car dealers use for PDR in your area. If you find a good person, it should be no problem

I had it done on my Turbo S Cayenne. I'm super happy it didn't have to get painted. They did over 100 small hail dents. Original paint is intact. Happy happy

Do you have the details of who you have used.

I'm looking for an expert in the Bay Area to remove some door dings.

Many thanks

A GOOD one almost certainly can do it, but it's an art, not a science. Make sure the individual, not the business is recommended.

I had a 6 inch crease in the door I had it removed using the paint less method it came out perfect.
