Cockney Christian, I just want to make certain that I have all of the 912 nuances figured out, so that when I come visit you in the UK, I'll be able to properly drive your car!

So let's see . . . two forward speeds - slow and slower - and using the brakes is optional since the wind resistance of "a hand out the window" supplies sufficient stopping power. Does that sound about right?!?!

I'm thinking about renting a Prius to practice with, but am concerned that the power disparity will be too great - whadaya think?!

PS: I plan on taking yer 928 out for a night of legal prostituting (buying, NOT selling) when I'm there, so make sure you've got the interior lined with plastic, my friend!

christiandk 03-17-2015 11:53 AM

What do you mean by UK, Ontario Ron?

I guess you are thinking about those pretty sing a song boys Elton ajohn and David Bowie!? All that typing and no fresh air has got you all confused, buddy!

Ronnie's.930 03-17-2015 11:54 AM

Whoops, I thought you were a UK stud for some reason . . . is it Denmark, then?

Matt Monson 03-17-2015 11:57 AM

I bet Christian wears Dolce and Gabbana... Both of them at the same time.

Ronnie's.930 03-17-2015 12:02 PM

^^^ Probably when he's driving the 928, but when in the 912, I hear that he goes full commando!

You bet ya!

And I''m gonna bring all the hot Euro gear for the filming of "Matt in Ronnie - The real and hard Broke Back Mountain"!

Ronnie's.930 03-17-2015 12:09 PM

^^^ So how did you film-edit yourself out of those scenes . . . or did you?!?!?!

Matt Monson 03-17-2015 12:21 PM

I've always heard that there's a lot of ass in Texas...

Ronnie's.930 03-17-2015 01:47 PM

^^^ My posts validate that for you, Matt, no doubt!

Do not get tripped up on a 912. One great car, I owned at least 10 of these cars and have 2 left in my personnel collection. A 67 and 66 3 gauge, the story is out, most 912's I paid very little, but good rust free 912's today are $40,000+. So I quit buying them, prices will go higher, like all cars from that era, rust was a problem and most were driven and used up. I would not be surprised if half are gone for good.

I own other cars too, 930, early 911...but the 912 will always be one of my best drivers. Most people talk how great they are as a track car...why you say? Because unlike the 911 MOST people cannot control a 911 correctly, but a 912 can be driven full bore without getting you or the car in trouble. Try one...

The 912 I got to drive was a joy. I would have one in a second.

O.K. 912 owners. Let's pick this car apart. Start counting the errors between the description and the actual car.

1968 PORSCHE 912 Coupe Rust Free

TPorsche912 03-17-2015 07:25 PM

I'll start it off with the 6805 paint code and the total lack of smog equipment. That's the obvious, so we'll see what other details the experts can spot.

The listing does not mention that the car is equipped with a 6hp Briggs & Stratton lawn tractor engine, and I clearly see something that looks suspiciously like that in the pictured engine bay!

:D

OK, that was a literal-LOL.

Ronnie's.930 03-17-2015 08:57 PM

^^^ Most excellent!

O.K. You are disqualified from future input. You obviously have no clue about Briggs and Stratton. It's actually a 930 engine missing all the fluff and a few unnecessary parts.

Ride height appears very high. The 912's we not lowered (at the factory) to the 911 ride height though. Most items appear correct with the 68 year only side marker lights. But the front marker lights are in the incorrect location. Looks like overspray from the tired paint job. Biggest thing I see is that in 1968 the door panels were a one year only design and hard to come by. The owner cut them to put speakers in the doors. That is an expensive mistake if someone is looking for correctness. Possible cut dash for the radio too. As noted no smog pump, again a 68 year only thing. Probably not a huge issue since most cars do not have to be smog checked.
Seat post bolt missing on drivers side seat. No original air cleaners.
Zero rust? Yeah right.................................

Matt Monson 03-18-2015 06:44 AM

Cookie cutters are wrong. But I gave up on the description because I am a grammar nazi and it hurt to read.
