I guess we are in the 40,000s now

I keep seeing 78-85 911s now listed for sale in the 40s. Not sure how many are sold at that range but there are more and more out there. And not all of them are being flipped...

I've still seen 85 Carreras going for $25k or even less at times with decent mileage. the deals are out there. The cars that are listed for $40k+ or even a LWB Longhood priced at $100k that is in poor condition sits forever without selling.

my point is that, its only an asking price, doesn't mean its selling for that always. i do agree that the prices are rising, but at the same time prices are just all over the place right now. some cars are still bought for less than 10k where others sell for 35k+.

its a strange time we live in now.

I think part of the issue is that the condition variables are opaque to the average buyer.

A $40k car and a $25k car can look about the same in the pictures provided in the average for sale ad.

most buyers want the hot looker and don't have a clue about whats under the hood. When I was a Jeep sales manager I traded for an 80s 911 because the owner hated the way it rode. It did ride very hard on test drive.
After we got it we took about 30 pounds of air out of each tire. Then it rode just fine..... I don't know what the guy was thinking with 60+ lbs in each ...

So true, because the Porsche market is so "hot" right now everyones trying to get in. Joe Shmo just paid 40k for an SC that was probably worth 22k. Money doesn't matter to some folk.

thats hilarious! Some people find any reason to hate a car.

You do realize that there is a such thing as a true market adjustment right? At some point you all need to come to terms with the fact that a 911SC was totally undervalued at 22K. These are really well built, great driving, and great looking sports cars and people that grew up loving them can afford 30-50K for them. It's as if some of you don't even like these cars, which is fine, but why post your disgust for the pricing day in and day out?

We are not talking about a lot of money here and honestly, the cars represent a decent value for what you are paying. If it seems out of line, for god's sake, move on. Some of you sound like a bunch of fat girls standing against the wall at a high school dance.

This is an enthusiasts forum, not an investment or make a fast buck forum. People here love the car not the potential profit that can be made. The point being is it is fair to want to get what you have in the car back, if possible... Expecting 5-20,000 dollars in profit is greed and opportunistic. The problem with this "enthusiast " forum, is that there are too many dealers on the forum solely to sell cars at huge mark ups. That then leads the individual enthusiast to raise his asking price. If an SC is worth $50k, what is a Carerra G50 worth? $75k? There is a scale of value that must remain intact. These cars that are listed for astronomical prices don't sell, as evident by the many "bumps" that the sellers gives the listings. Some sellers keep bumping and bumping and then comment " a lot of looking but no offers." That is because people know that you are insane for asking so much. I wish Pelican would make good on their promise to remove listings with too many bumps. It cheapens the forum. Let them list on a commercial car sales web site. More than half the cars on the forum are dealers who don't contribute to the forum in any other way.

I just bought my black on black '86 coupe with 8/10 paint and 9/10 interior for cheap, compared to some of these auction prices. Nice knowing that even with an engine rebuild, I won't be upside down.

I love these cars. I love my 85 Carrera. But the real problem I see in the near future is smogging these cars in places like California and the west coast and east coast. Where most of these cars live. Our cars are wonderful cars but they are dirty. I just saw an article in the news that said California must tighten clean air standards for the feds even more on a time frame. It said that the State already has cleaned up industry and farm and huge equipment but the only place where they can clean up more is automobiles. I think our cars are not long for this state! And that could drive values way down. You think I'm a downer? I have talked to BAR and they hate our cars. I think in the future middle America will have a lot of nice vintage 911 air cooled cars.

No smog here in Mass on anything 15 years or older. Just safety inspection.

California is its own island of crazy.

It isn't the feds driving the train. If anything, California politicians are pushing the feds.

Now that made me chuckle!

My brother the 987 Boxster owner down in New Orleans traded his 2012 Fiat 500 Sport for a 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo. Not the Abarth, but just the Turbo model. Then the dealer closed down. He has to drive over to Baton Rouge for service. "1 (ONE) Fiat mechanic in the entire State of Louisiana" he says.
While he was there, he perused the lot of new 500's. Said 9 out of 10 were automatic transmission cars. Even the Abarth models.

So what does that tell me with regard to the 911 Marketplace? I think down the road we're going to have a much harder time finding a potential buyer that actually wants to shift gears in a sports car. They'd rather chew gum and check their Facebook status going down the road.

Grew up in Mass.

Michigan has its flaws but no emission or safety inspection for any age vehicles here. Makes the car hobby much less complicated.

You would almost think they like cars in this silly state.
