993 prices rising?!
Is it just me or are 993 prices rising? I used to see some in the 20's (especially tips). Now every one I see is 30k and over. I do live in the North East which has something to do with it.... How are 993 prices everywhere else?

I have been following them for years and I have seen quite a rise in prices... classic model that only seems to get more desirable each year.

993 Prices
Funny, I tried to sell a very, very nice 95 coupe with the manual trans for 26K and got nowhere.

Appears 993 narrow bodies seem to take longer to sell But 993 wide body prices, especially the turbos, have been rising the past few years

Funny timing on this.... In the last month I've had 3 people follow me to a stop and ask if I wanted to sell my 993. I told all 3; 'not for sale'. Now I'm thinking I should have just thrown out some ridiculously high number and it's yours.... FWIW, it's a clean 97 C2 guards red, 6-speed. There seems to be so few of them on the East Coast - supply and demand. I have seen 2 other 993's on the road all summer. My guess is they're being hoarded.

I think you're right that they're rising but there's more to the story in that I think the tide is rising for all (nicer G50/964/993) ships. When I bought my 89 four years ago, prices were on the decline. I caught it just before the bottom. The market bottomed and is now rebounding to where it was say 4-5 years ago. That's why I was able to sell my car for what I paid for it. A year or two ago.
It seems as though there are fewer mid-level 993's on the market right now than I've seen in awhile. Sure, you can grab 12k museum pieces by the dozen if you have the money. Same for 100k+ mile examples. But the 40-70k higher quality cars are still pretty scarce. Oh, and the wide bodies are definitely jumping in value. I'm looking for one myself, right now and the prices are going sky high. |

Now in 993 land ...

All air cooled stuff has gone up significantly in price, so think of it as a rising tide. I also believe that fixing and maintaining all older Porsches has gotten a lot more expensive over the last 5 years due to parts prices. A seller of a well kept car will factor that into their asking price. I certainly would remember how much my transmission rebuild cost, when it is time to sell and would try to recoup some of those costs.
The 993 may also be special because over the last 5 years it has gone from depreciating newer model to appreciating modern classic. It has changed hands from 1st or 2nd owner to enthusiast 2nd or 3rd owners. The enthusiast owners are not financing or leasing the cars and may not have a lot of pressure to sell, which may allow them to hold out for a higher price. JMHO as a 993 owner. ![]() G |

Images of that car's odometer show its miles just shy of 63k. I think the 130k is a typo / mistake on the webpage. That's the good news. The bad news is the blue interior. Almost a $15k deduction!

Well, two years later and.... S models priced through the roof. Turbo's - fogettabouttit... C2's in good shape - 40's and up. I still see some cabs/tips priced in the 30's. Anybody finding anything different?

There is practically zero 993 for sale under $50k, even in the Porsche rich Bay Area. Used to be a glut of these.
There goes my chance of ever owning a 993 turbo ... At least this makes me feel better about the upcoming suspension work. ![]() G |

Interesting to see this old thread brought back.
I just bought a 993 this week- 1996 Arena Red/beige (my favourite colour combination) with 56000 miles. It passed inspection yesterday and I'm picking it up on the weekend. It wasn't cheap, but was selling for roughly the same price as a nice G50 these days. Kind of a no-brainer from my point of view. |

Guy at work sold his '97 (?) blk/blk 993S to a "friend" for $26k about a month ago. Said "friend" got a PPI and sounds like he raked him over the coals. :banghead:
Never a word to me. Marketplace relevance - They're still out there with owners ignorant to value. |

Could be changing...
It seems 964 values will soon surpass those of the 993 cars...
Being 35 years old, the 993 always appealed to me while growing up and seemed like the ultimate iteration of an air-cooled Porsche. I do remember the debut of the 964, however, and seeing the AWD chassis first revealed in the magazines of the time. I, along with many others it seems, have come around and concluded that the 964 holds title to the pinnacle of the air-cooled cars. Viewing these two generations side by side, I feel the 964 is more in keeping with Ferry's original design intent. It just feels right to me. To my eyes, the front end of the 993 looks sloppy, and I might even take a 996 instead! ![]() Wasn't 'ol Ferry apoplectic that the 993 headlights got squished? BTW, my above comments do not necessarily apply to driving dynamics or reliability. Both series have their issues which have been well documented. |

Fortunately, you're opinion is in the vast minority... Especially you're 'joke' to prefer the fugly 996-oxsters front end over a 993.... The 993 is the closest interpretation to the 959 and the it shows with it's continued popularity & value. I like 964's and would take one in a hear beat, but NEVER over a similar 993.
