All cars are worth the same.... It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

This thread just yanks me in several directions. Forget that I have a dog, 4 chickens, and live in the country (with my wife)! I have an 81 SC Targa that is gorgeous inside and out. 128k on the Odo. Lot's of receipts. All upgrades and always a Cali car. Right now it's at the mechanics getting smogged and having a warmup issue addressed. Then I sell it.
I've been told it was a $23k car. I've been offered $22k sight unseen. I see coupes selling over $30k. I was thinking $28k but now????? I'm in no hurry, but I don't want to undersell, and don't want to ask a stupid price. This current marketplace and the informed opinions on this forum only add to my confusion. When I'm ready, is $28k too low? I wont drive it anymore, and can sit on it for a year, but it's in my way as I'm finishing up my Z28 and could use the garage space. I suppose it' nice to have this problem, but I just want to move on. |

Your targa -- if in pristine condition, with documented headstud replacement and tensionsers, in a cool period color, could easily be a low-$30s car. If it is a good driving, sound car with somewhat tired cosmetics, spotty records, and no engine work, in black/red/white, it is a mid-20s car. Start deducting if it has non-original wheels, ripped upholstery, body damage, rust, accident history, serious leaks, transmission issues, etc. |
Thanx COLB. Color is Anthracite. At least it's not red white or black.
|
$28k sounds reasonable.

Except for the wheels (mine are polished) that's my car!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430149690.jpg

Nice. Not usually a fan of polished wheels on impact bumper cars, but they set off your paint color nicely.
If the interior is straight, and it can pass a PPI mechanically, I'd put $29,500 on it and see what happens. $32,500 if you don't mind sitting on it for a while. |
Thats exactly what I was thinking 30-32.5k
|
You guys even found the same fence and grass. :>)

Agree on the high $20's. Low $30's if you want to push it.
Speaking of high prices, my buddy just got a quote from Haggerty for his 96 TT policy...$5100! |

Yeah, why all the hate for red. Guards red is the iconic color for Porsche…..I also love Orange.
|
I'm not seeing hatred for red as much as the honest admission that Guards Red does not command the same price of certain other more unique and interesting colors. If you like red it just means you can buy your car for less.
|
MM, that's fair and true from what I have seen...
|
I don't hate red - it is just like Matt said -- they represent the baseline for prices.
If you want a Guards Red car, you have a lot to pick from, and that makes it more of a buyer's market. There is also a caveat emptor factor given how many sloppy red resprays are out in the marketplace. |
