Bargain or Scam

Just hit the market. No affiliation

Rare color 1980 Porsche 911 Sc - $14632

I'd be careful with this one.

"Everything in the vehicle is in perfect working order. All maintenance is up to date. Oil was changed in October.5O4 4462820"

You never know but it looks like a scam to me. If it's too good to be true it probably is.

"Aga Blue is a very rare and classic period color, single stage respray looks very authentic
Interior is very original and in good shape, has some patina
Engine runs well and the transmission shifts smoothly."

Funny they use the same kind of pricing when scamming the boat ads. In this case the asking price of 14632.. should immediately raise a red flag. The scammers use low pricing on highly desirable items to catch unwitting prey.

It's interesting that 5 yrs ago most of the ads you saw for P-cars were pretty honest and usually listed all the failures with the cars rather than expanding on all the rarities. Back then they were just "used cars". Now that they are "collectibles" all the scammers have come out of the woodwork. Before Porsches they were busy passing off Rolex watches, or Cubic Zirconia's as rare diamonds. Scammer's certainly chase the money.

I wouldn't drive 50 miles to look at a car today without spending lots of time on the phone asking very detailed questions. It's still the cars that you find without any advertising that turn out to be the "real deal".

It takes a lot of investigation to find the hidden cars, but they are still out there. Here are a couple of pics of a car I recently came across by accident. The Camaro in the pics is what was being advertised, but what is in the background certainly caught my eye. I should get off my you know what and check it out.

There is another car advertised in BC (Canada) that is obviously a scam. I have not been to BC (yet), but I know generally what it looks like. I also definitely know what Colorado looks like, and I immediately thought, upon looking at the photo, "that photo is in Colorado" I think you can just see the plate in one photo, too.

1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa

I did a Google image search of the photo and it is a car that was advertised here last year.

I lived in Comox BC for a year. It looks more like a picture taken in the interior of BC on a road trip. It does say the targa top was rebuilt in Boulder CO. Unknown mileage so may be high.

Its a 2 hr drive north from me. I am in the middle of moving but it is tempting to check it out since it is local.

And I spoke to the company advertising it in South Carolina. They have all the paperwork and conveniently, the inspection is done so no need to send someone out, just pay and it is on its way!
