Need value check from experts 84 Carrera
I'm changing tactics....
|
Looks like a nice car and relatively low mileage. Engine is beautiful. My guess... Low 34k high 42k.
And climbing daily. |
Thank you Nachtfalter, I appreciate the feedback. I hope to sell to a Pelican who can appreciate the work.
|
I would put it in the same ballpark. Put it out there around $37.5k and be willing to take something in the $32-35k range.
|
I like the $35k number. Should sell quickly at that.
|
Looks like a nice car. Remember eBay is for advertising, not selling. Don't mess around with Paypal. Wire transfer is best. GLWS.
Cheers d. |

Wire transfer only. You'll have your money instantly though I'd wait a couple of hours for it to appear at your bank. Really easy to set up and perfectly safe if the buyer actually has the money. Paypal is too easy to reverse payment and they won't necessarily be your friend if a problem occurs. (plus somebody has to pay the paypal fees - usually seller) Too many scammers out there. A paper bag full of cash is good too, but best to do somewhere REAL safe. |
Great information d and bobby. I'm a newb when it comes to selling stuff. I appreciate the information, thanks.

In all seriousness put that on your local CL and it will sell in an afternoon. Your price will be too high for flippers and dealers. A bunch of the Rennlist GT3 guys (like Mooty) have air cooled fever. And they seem to have a hard on for Guards Red, unlike most of us here. Send me the ad wherever you list it and I'll put it in front of the NorCal RListers. |
Your description forms the basis of a pretty good ad.
The only gaps I see are maintenance records and the condition of the A/C, which looks to be a R134a conversion (to some degree), but without a belt. What is the story there? If you are looking to sell quick, I think a $37-39k price is about right -- start high and give yourself some negotiating room. Pictures are key -- all panels with VIN stickers, underside shots of the engine & trans, etc. |
Hey Colb, thanks for the input. I have a huge stack of records, maybe a ten year gap early on where the original owner didn't want to share. I mentioned them early on. Took the A/C belt off for performance reasons, really. Didn't know it was converted, will check that.
I don't want top dollar, just a fairly priced, seamless, quick sale to a knowledgeable buyer. |
Rich "I've Got" Gas, wuts up with this selling ****, my friend?! Please don't say yer shopping for a Targa !!!
|
That's a very nice car! FYI... A friend recently sold one down here in Miami, in very similar shape, with almost identical miles for $42K. The buyer didn't even flinch. He's in the biz, and typically if you are, your book of buyers is larger than if you're not, but it's a comp none the less.
Although I agree with the numbers being thrown around on this thread, I'd keep that $42K in mind. Either way, it's a beautiful car. GLWS, and please post the selling price if you don't mind. |

Thanks Otif, I'll keep the big number in mind. I would like to think my 911 is one of the good ones. I've put a lot of time and money into making it safe and reliable.
|
The West Coast and Northeast seem to draw higher numbers. I agree wit Colb that a high $30's # will give you some negotiating room. Don't kid yourself...you will get inundated with inquiries, along with some low ballers and scam artists.
Tread carefully. Local deals are always easier and quicker. You don't need to go national with this one. It will probably be a West Coast buyer anyway. Forget Ebay. You don't need it. Pelican and CL should do it quickly. GLWS. You sound like you're ready, willing and able. Just the ticket for someone who is ready to buy. I would be surprised if you haven't received PM"s already!!! |
Thanks NYNick, have to get mentally prepared for the weirdness. I'm getting great advice from you guys. I'll keep it local. No PMs yet...

PS - please just say NOOOOOOO, to the thought of a Richard Simmons mobile!!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...%20-%20911.jpg Rich, all the best with the sale. And dayuuummmnnnn, I was hoping you had yer eyes on a Turbo, or something!!! :) |
Hey Ron, yeah the wife nixed the Turbo deal again... Downsizing sucks. I'd have to buy one like Robby's and weld a roof on it, or one without a motor.
|
^^^
Ha, hilarious thar, Rich! Speaking of Robby, he threw a fit a few months ago and said he was done posting on Pelican due to the ribbing he was getting - guess he was serious because I haven't seen anything from him in a long time . . . |
Be interesting to watch how the so called 'bubble' treats this baby.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo.../smileysex.gif Mooty would have to actually keep a car more than a year to be a collector. But he's good for the community because he rehomes his cars to enthusiasts, and often at a loss. The guy changes his mind more often than I change my socks. But he's got the air cooled bug. He's going to end up buying 3 or 4 of them and after he drives them all, he will keep one or two and sell the others to buddies. And then he will drive it. He does drive his cars. |

Rich, I liked ol' Robby, too - very unique individual and funny in his own way, but I guess he was not one to enjoy the shat slinging. |
Is it posted in the Pelican for sale section?
Rennlist for sale section? Those will get you some more national exposure. Placing it on a California craigslist is going to get you only locals and the few folks who use searchtempest nationally. Independence Day weekend certainly isn't helping. If you are flexible on the price, put OBO in your ad to show that you aren't one of those guys who thinks their stuff is worth more just because they own it. |
Mooty is out. He wants white not GR.
Let the weekend play out. A lot more people surf on weekends. And definitely make sure you have Obo in ad. Bobby is right. I skip over many ads that say "firm". |
Ad text is straightforward, I like that. Maybe a bit too much detail about things like lithium grease but better too much detail than too little.
But you need PICTURES!!! That's a great-looking car, it deserves some nice pictures. Take it out to a park or something and take some nice sharp pictures of the exterior and some well-lit interior shots. Make a guy (or gal) want to buy it! And list it nationally here and on Rennlist at least. Cheers and GLWS d. |

Get yourself a free flickr ( https://www.flickr.com/ ) account and post up some hi-res pictures. And add the flickr link to your pictures to any advertisement you put up.
If someone is interested in buying long distance, these are necessary. Your ad text is very thorough and clear, you need to do the same with the images. The upside down picture is going to make people think the car is in Australia. :-) |
Yes, several photos are upside down. I tried 2 different browsers.
|
For God's sake Rich, fix the Pix on Pelican. It's terrible to see so many upside down.
|
Yep, they are upside down and sideways. It's a phone picture thing.
|
^^^
That upside down picture thing seems to happen when trying to load pictures directly from an iPhone or iPad. One solution is to first transfer the pics to a desktop or laptop computer - most of the time, the picture software correctly orients the pictures. Some guys in the 930 forum have tried having the phones upside down (lens on bottom) when taking pictures that they want to post - some have said that worked and for others it hasn't. |
Ok, I'll use my Big Mac to upload. I guess I should start over:( I hate selling stuff.

Otherwise, as suggested by the others, add detailed pictures of the car from all sides, seats , maintenance receipts, car fax, video, details of the ownership history etc Any leaks ? Does the AC still work ? How about the compression, leakdown ? GLWS |

I've paid for 3 ppis in the last month. With both private parties I shared the results. The Dbag dealer didn't need to know what I know. |
Hey pmax, why don't you come see my car.... Then you can help me describe it accurately.
PM if interested. |
Selling sucks but if you want close to top dollar you need to prove to buyers that it's worth the money.
Put yourself in the buyer's shoes. Everybody likes maintenance records, ownership history, tons of pictures, maybe even a startup video to listen to engine and look at gauges. Fix up the ads, and let them set for the weekend and see what happens. Did you contact the guy who responded from NY with the 917 number? Googling the phone number gives a couple of older automotive related links. |

Hey, no expert here, just asking the same questions a buyer will. I'll gladly help you take a video, though ! |
