You can bet the scam will succeed many times over. I've been amazed to read how many Pelican members have been did by the same type scam in the past couple of years, and those are just the ones not too proud to post about it! :)

This scammy ad has been appearing in a dozen or so different cities, at least. Each one seems to have a different totally random/odd detail included....

It is also on Austin's area Craigslist.
I like how a picture of a 1980 SC is advertised as a 5spd turbo with AWD! Bucket Seating 1980 Porsche 911-sc New Brakes |

Yeah , I posted this last night when I found it in a few areas,
I have bought things cross country from craigslist before but nothing as expensive as a car |
I've been seeing it here in NE/NY listings as well.

I still don't quite understand how these scams work. Do they ask for a "deposit" to hold the car and then disappear?
|
I've never got that far in playing with them...

If you get $1000 or more from a few people its not a bad weeks pay !
This guys story was too long and just sounded like B S , If he made it simple he would catch more fish . But glad that he has a good job in Greece ! |

One guy that had a long thread about a scam he was victim of thought he had verified the car's existence, but the problem was that the person verifying was recommended by the seller and was part of the scam - the buyer even talked to this person on the phone, but it all turned out to be a lie/scam, and the car was never even in the seller's possession. |

Of course the online escrow service has a very official sounding name and a pretty nice website so wiring them the money seems safe. Once the escrow service has your money, it is gone. The other alternative as previously mentioned is just wiring a $100-$500 deposit to hold the car. After they collect the money you never hear from them again. Having them take a picture of the car with a hand written sign that says "I hate scammers" is one way to at least prove they have the car (unless they are really good at photoshop). |
I once paid a photographer to go take pictures of a car I wanted to buy ,
Got the photos but the car was worse then I expected so did not buy it |
