Well A LOT of forum members have sold their cars. Just look through the for sale adds. Most of them probably sold for a good sum too!

...and I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread would agree with that?

(Can't help but notice that several of those you posted also had price drops, by the way.)

What's up with the Hagerty pricing ?

$40,000= A rough car

$90,000= A nice car all stock

I think most of the cars on pelican are drivers . Nothing wrong with this but they need work and have incorrect bits.

And does anyone here have a condition 2 car? Ive not seen one yet? There are condition 3s on here!

Skwerl 07-21-2015 08:06 PM

I went through the Flickr on one of the links you posted and he even included the Hagerty chart. If I'm reading it right, his Condition 3 car should have sold quickly if listed at its "market value" of $140k.

Someone got the deal of a lifetime buying it for almost half off! ;)

That car is a 100k car not a 140k car. It will be bid to $75k on ebay. Ebay is not the place to get top dollar.. It is the place to get FAST CASH. Lets not get wholesale and retail mixed up lol

What would a condition 2-3 1988 930 Turbo Slantnose Cabriolet in paint to sample exterior and special order interior be worth? It's an attractive combo. Smoke grey on burgundy.

Skwerl 07-21-2015 08:24 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot the guys buying at prestigious auctions have never heard of eBay. It would be pretty embarrassing if everyone knew you paid $25k "under market" on that website for peasants.

Factory M505 Miles average so lets say 65k miles?

That car is worth between $70,000 to $80,000 Wholesale and Retail $90,000 to $110,000

Slant Cabs are a acquired taste.

They look spotless.

Lol none of them are even close to a condition 2. This is the problem people can't don't know what a 2,3 or 4 is. Especially if its their car. Again most of these cars probably sold right in line with excellences estimates for drivers. That's what all the above are Drivers.

$60,000 will buy a 930 that needs $30,000 in repairs + parts
$90,000 will buy a 930 that needs nothing

Neither are show cars or condition 2

I agree with most on this tread that the 930 world is slowing. Haggerty prices make no sense to me. I own a average 78 and Haggerty lists it as $140,000 average, but a average SC is $22,000. Much harder to find a average SC for $22,000. I agree with the earlier posts saying, most $100,000 buyers are harder to fine now.

This puzzles me as all recent ebay sales are up. Auctions America last week I believe ALL 930s met reserve at over 100k. As surprising as our members car not reaching it's goal flip side look at this car. Same year way worse condition and bid to 10k more.

Both cars seem to have the same bidders as well!

Also is this thread about excellence values or hagerty values?? There is a big difference between what each say. Hagerty is far more aggressive than the current excellence valuations.

Yeah, a 'barn find' 930 that's had a re-spray and new cheese-ball wheels put on.

Can't wait until the market cools so all these band-wagon dealer clowns can ride their unicycles off into the sunset.

Black968 07-22-2015 05:54 AM

It would not surprise me to see prices dip this time of the year. It seems the market heats up in Jan - Feb. Buyers are looking in the winter and pull the trigger in the Spring. Top dollar will always go to an all original car. As stated how to put a condition number is not an easy thing. There are not alot of 930's left so the condition scale will trend down over time. Hot Rods are a completely different market. No idea how to price one.

Sorry guys!
Not the most elegant choise of words there.

Everybodys opinion on this market is more or less "home grown" , including my own......I do recognize that.

It is very hard to make predictions.......especially about the future ;-)
We are all messing around in the dark here.

But I actually don't think this is your classic bubble.
Demand is mainly driven by a desire to own a 911/930 and not by investment types of people who suddenly want to get out. (of course this is my personal feeling)

The supply of cars is not infinate so somebody will be left behind with a craving but no Porsche.

So my question is this:
What would suddenly cause demand to grind to a hold?

Personally I am somewhat ambivalent about the whole thing.
I fell that the 930 (especially early ones) deserves to be a top dog in the market.
On the other hand, I dont like the thought of selling....EVER!
But the current prices does force that thought into my brain.

That 79 930 posted on the forum will sell no doubt. Just haven't found the buyer..yet. It's a nice car and a good year for the 930.

aschen 07-22-2015 09:30 AM

Does excellence still value euro coupe at about 3dollars?

I havent read Excellence in a while but there previous tendency was to under value cars right. I remember with the run up of 993s they had mint coups valued at 20k when you couldn't buy one for less than 45.

Why shouldn't it venture into speedster territory?
A 3.0 930 is a rarer car than a 356 speedster and IMO much more significant and special among Porsches.
