Is this a $40K SC?
And a targa no less?
23k mi car. Always garage stored, 2 owners since new. It hasn't left Colorado since it left the dealership. 100% original except for the clutch and the targa top was just recovered. The owner thinks that he might be able to get $45K for it if he got it on a BAT auction. I wasn't looking to spend anywhere close to that on a car, not even a car this nice. What think you guys? Is this a $40k car? What about $45K? I couldn't find a ding or scratch on the paint anywhere. Only noticeable blem was a scratch on the targa bar that looked like someone set down a set of keys. COA checks out. Tool kit is there. Drives like it's a brand new car. It's the real deal for condition. It's one of those mythical "collector" condition time capsules. All thoughts appreciated. Here's some pics I snapped with my iphone with the owner's permission. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wow, what a beauty. How did you manage to find it? Hard to put a number on that very top of the market in my opinion. There's this coupe listed at that price level, the
targa seems like an even nicer car though http://www.aicauto.com/content/inventory.asp?Image=607

That Carrera looks very nice. Price seems cheap based on pictures and no details.

It's a 78 SC with a 3.2. Fresh repaint in original color. Needs nothing. But not a 'collector car.'

Geez Matt, if there was ever a $40K SC, I guess that's it.
I might add that I saw a totally original '90 Cab today with 15k miles on it that the guy thought might be worth $50K. He might be right.

This is for sure a $40k car. With the low miles and the prestine condition of this car, its worth every penny of that. I bet you could get more if you held out for the "right" buyer.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I would say that at this point I am neither a buyer nor seller of this car. The car owner isn't an internet guy. And while he's pretty sure of what the car is worth, before he goes to the trouble of listing it and dealing with everything that goes with that in today's environment, he just asked me to double check on it. So that's kind of the point of this thread.
We see plenty of dealers with SCs that they consider a $40k car, but we almost never see one out in the open in the wild, so to speak. This is an instance where the seller wants to see the car go to an end user, and will hold a higher price to keep away the flippers and dealers. When he lists it, he will wait for that right buyer that Farrell mentions. What do you guys think about the idea of the BAT bump? It was something the car owner asked me about. We've seen it on some cars, but on others they have just gone flat. Is this the kind of car that would warrant that sort of extra premium we've seen on some others? The seller is willing to go the extra mile with pictures and submission of the car to BAT if he is reasonably confident that is where the car will sell for the most. You would say he's torn. He wants all the money but would offer some sort of discount for a quiet quick sale to an end user that's going to appreciate the car.

I think BaT is a great way to sell a car like this, if not the only way to sell a car like this. A few of the SC's have gone flat on there recently however, when there is a car with this low of miles and the right condition, think it will get the right attention and price.

I thought the gold car did all right. It was the previous white targa that I didn't think did all that well.
