Yet another dishonest salesman..
If you scroll down the ad, it reads, "Clean car history report" .. But according to Carfax, there is an accident reported in 2013. And looking at their low selling price for this nice 993, I can only assume that they are aware of the bad history. And no, I am not posting this to bash on a dealer because I have a small dealership as well, and from my own experience, it doesn't really matter who is selling the car to you.. There are dealers that lie.. There are private sellers that lie.. You just never know. Last edited by mulsanne79; 07-24-2015 at 06:04 PM.. |

Way back about 8 yrs ago I bought a clean 944 Turbo.
It had a clean "carfax" history. It had a salvage title according to Autocheck. Maybe those people don't use carfax. I have always maintained that carfax is a good place to start gathering info, but it ain't the gospel, unless you ask carfax. The guys selling the car might just be ig'nant of the report. I've seen cars that had a bad carfax that have had no damage ever. The car was at the accident scene and part of the police report for whatever reason. carfax buys the info from an ins. Co. and they have people entering info into their database all day. There is bound to be a mistake or two. or ten. Ya pays yer money and takes yer chances. Carfax has been known to correct their mistakes if it can be proven to them that they made one. |

I assume most sellers are guilty until proven innocent. I live by condition condition condition. Pay for what the car is.

You can correct accident reports on Carfax too, it just takes a lot more leg work and time then a simple fat finger mileage error on carfax.
Carfax is just a collector of information as others have said its not the gospel its just a database. I have never had an issue having any obvious errors corrected on carfax. Thats a good price on what looks to be a decent car. Go look at it, go have it sent out for a PPI. Spend a few hundred bucks on a paint meter and figure out which panels were painted and then make your choice. The assumption that every salesman is a crook is ridiculous... you might as well assume every person you meet is a crook then too. Mulsanne .... this is sort of an odd post comming from you given the fact that you posed here and on Rennlist as an enthusiest asking a lot of questions about car values and how much you should pay for this car or that when infact you are a dealer who was buying cars and flipping them on these boards. Pot meet Kettle.... you two have a lot in common.

If you know what you're looking at then what difference does a "carfax" really make except to increase your negotiating ability (sometimes). If it got hit and dented, B.F.D. ! It's a car! It's not like losing a limb or something equally horrible, most everything can be fixed. If you're not sure, as stated above, do a p.p.i., at a place that knows both Porsche bodywork and mechanics for either a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down.

I always thought that Mulsanne79 was actually Dick Barbour-but this guy gave the impression that he was an employee of Barbour's when he was being called out for the holier than thou "rich client" that stiffed them on an Outlaw car that they were buying for him at Amelia Island.
Barbour's is a small dealership in Oakwood down the road from Road Atlanta. |

I think he's the salesman. I never got the impression that he was Dick. But maybe he will set us straight.

DBP is a two men operation. Mr.Barbour and myself (aka, Mulsanne79.) We started running our small dealership about two and half years ago and it's been fun. Lots of work, but we do enjoy it .. Dick is an awesome guy and probably the most positive minded person I have ever met. He is an avid collector of all sorts of things, and every one that comes to our shop always admires his big collection of tether cars
