Another high mileage 993 question
Hi everyone:
I'm looking at a one-owner '97 6-speed coupe that looks to be in great shape. Only concern (for me) is that it's close to 120K miles and I was previously searching below 75-80K. Seller reports no major work except clutch replacement at 60K. Not sure about SAI/CEL, but would of course get a PPI. Two questions: Is this car getting to the point where I can almost expect something like a top-end refresh soon? And maybe another clutch? (I know there are a lot of threads re: mileage and I searched - but would appreciate specific input before I decide on this one.) Is this a good buy, or just average, in the low $30K price range? Thanks!

I dont think of 120K as high mileage...lol....
Sounds like a great buy from the info you gave. A lot will be determined by the PPI, but sock away some money for potential future issues (you may never have to use it). MattR Last edited by matt930s; 08-04-2015 at 06:09 AM.. |

Thanks Matt & Matt - I appreciate the quick response.
I'm tempted on this one because of the 1-owner part, but blue has never been a favorite color for me and in the end I've decided to keep looking. If anyone else is interested, the link is below. The seller seems to be one of the good Porsche guys and the car has been serviced only at the original dealer since day one. According to him it may need some paint work on the hood, has recently developed an intermittent SRS lamp issue and there is some sort of question about the life left on the clutch. Never had a CEL issue. 1997 Porsche Carrera Coupe

I would consider this if it was in Metro NY, and offer $29 cash after a PPI.
I think it's a good deal.

Not a bad deal....I'm not crazy about all gray interiors though....

I saw the ad yesterday and thought it might be an interesting buy but couldn't get past the gray interior, everything else seemed to be in line.
If it had black interior, I would be busting up I-71 with my checkbook. Driver 993 six speed coupes are a rare find at a decent price. |

I'd buy that car if 993s were my thing. I don't mind a grey interior and in all about blues.

Which blue? Iris Blue is sweet.
EDIT: Never mind. I see the link. Still, nice car. |

Go after it. Check it out and make an offer based on what you find. If the car is in your budget I'm not sure you could regret the purchase.
I just bought a '96 with 220k miles with no previous major engine work. It has it's issues that I'm currently fixing, mostly oil leaks. I've pulled the exhaust and all valve covers and am very surprised how little wear I've found. Cam lobes look good, from what I can see of the valves they look good, etc.... I had never even driven a 993 and am very happy with the car. Functional AC Rides nice Handles nice Power steering and brakes ABS/Airbags Great power Still an aircooled Pcar. Honestly, the best part is that my wife likes to drive it, which is a big plus. She doesn't like the '88 due to lack of most of the above items.

![]() But then again, who could resist those seats? Seriously, I'm back looking for something below 100k - if I can find the right car.
