Thoughts on this middie hot rod?

I'm not in the market but if I was -- I LOVE this car

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/878281-fs-1974-911-coupe-hotrod-3-0-a.html

Don't normally think BBS are right but on this the chrome ads up (except inside on the door details)

What do you marketplace junkie friends think of the price? it's been there a few days so obvi 55 is his starting not getting. In other words - - does middie hot rod = 45-50ish?

Not as "strange" as a 993 pimped 964.

I LIKE it. The interior is just how I'd do it. The exterior I like how the bumpers were kept and sort of flushed out, cleaned up a bit, is that a yellowbird style front or similar? I don't care for the wheels (too big, too bright, I'd probably go RS style fuchs). Or the yellow lens covers. But those are personal touches easy to change.

Won't comment on price :-)

Pictures are too photoshopped.

Wheels are too big and tire stretch looks terrible.

Ruf valance doesn't suit the lines of the '74. Should be clean down there without fogs.

Other than those things I like it.

How much more go is required? 250hp? 300? Or is it a dis placement thing? Just curious.

I've said before, I love this car.
I would love it more with a 3.2.
A 3.6 would be whorelove.

Same. I think the rear would be cleaned up with out the chrome bezels around the taillights and either losing or blacking out the 911 badge. The front also has a weird look with the Ruf type valence flushed up against the bumper and the stacked yellow-clear-yellow lights. Would look better with the fogs deleted or the standard recessed valence. Wheels are a matter of taste I suppose. All that said, I still think its a really nice car and hope he gets his price. Long live the middie hot rods!

Not necessarily a HP# thing or displacement, I want a lopey idle and a engine that makes power on the higher end of the RPM band in my hot rods, not mild mannered low RPM engines. and there is no mention in the ad about a cam change to take advantage of the Carbs and exhaust so it is safe to assume this car has the bland CIS cams. Much less mention of porting, valves, lightened flywheel, etc. other than new.
Cams man, cams at minimum! make it HOT! not just look it! 3.0's can howl.
Or go big, as mentioned earlier with a 3.6, already twin plugged and has the displacement for a monster car.
But I am the kind of guy who spends money on power train way before I buy the look stuff.
So this car is great at the show and would be kind of boring on the drive in my view.
I am more of a driver than a show type.

Christian, I bet one of these days a creative light (at least a small flicker) will go off in yer head and you will finally realize that these cars were meant to be built upon - not left in the neutered states that they arrived at the dealerships in. Here's to hoping, bro!

I went to see this car yesterday. I spent about an hour looking at the car and talking to Jim who is the seller.

Just to be upfront… I had never met Jim before yesterday. My impression is he’s a standup guy who is meticulous in building this and other 911 and 930’s. He showed me some photos of some of his other Porsche’s and he’s got the skill and patience to build these cars right.

My impression of the car is this…. It’s a very nice car, done to a high high driver standard. I don’t think Jim built it to be a show car, it’s clearly meant to be driven.

There are a lot of very high end parts which were selected carefully not as a hodgepodge of stuff bolted together. The suspension is done and done well. The motor, as you can see is a thing of beauty. Fired right up and makes all the right sounds especially with those Weber’s, and the M&K. The interior is done to a nice high standard. As we all know those Recaro Pole Positions in leather are the real deal, and quite expensive. I love em but they’re not for everyone. The paint presents very very well. I am a fan of the RUF front valance even on the middy body. The green is a nice rich deep green. The wheels are love em or hate em. They are BLING and they make the polished Lindsey’s on my Targa look rather pedestrian. They were very carefully built to tuck that much rubber under the middy fenders. The lights are H1 lenses which are properly stained so they won’t fade or peel.

I think I am correct in that 74 and older cars don’t need to be smogged in Cali and my guess is this car would be a nice one to have out there.

I am happy to give anyone an opinion on the car if you like.

Oh .... there were also at least 50 of the Pelican Parts Stickers, the one you get in every order, on the wall and I am sure many more in his other garage.

And yet, no sale.
Two things might be holding this beauty back.
The 3.0 and the $55 asking.

Those are the two big things I see holding it from a sale.

At that price point you could buy a lot more car.

Still a very pretty car.

That 67 SWB that sold here last month with the 3.6, PMOs and SC running gear was that kind of money and is way more car in my view, maybe not in the "bling" department but definitely had more "pep" and looked like it would be a lot more fun of a hot rod.
