Vanilla Sunday Carrera for Sale Must SEE ... must see what ?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/876374-86-vanilla-sunday-carrera-sale-must-see.html

This market has really got some people thinking any ordinary driver 911, with a few very ordinary mods is worth big bucks.
Started at $62,000, now dropped to $57,000 (after failing to sell on ebay) for a 1986 911 with over 100k miles and absolutely no mention of a rebuild ? I just do not get it, where is the value in this car to justify the price ?
I really think either he doesn't want to seriously sell the car, or he is incredibly deluded. What has he really done to justify the price ? Steering wheel, shifter and shocks ? the muffler.

There's no mention of who did the work, or what history the car has. To my eye the cabin is half done, and the black / brown combo is unappealing. IMO its neither one thing nor the other. Having owned a 1986 Carrera which was Steve Wong chipped 3.2, what I really find the funniest part is his comparison of a big heavy GT car like a 86 Carrera 3.2 with a GT3.

Strong for an 86

And I'll tell you what... I HAVE a gt3 and that car scares the **** out of me on full boil. My 89 is like a warm glass of milk in comparison. Both are fun in their own ways. But no way in hell does a 3.2 compare performance wise to a gt3 in any respects other than the 911 badging and rear engine. My gt3 is 3000 lbs wet with 385 rwhp. 89 is 2700 maybe and what 190 at best ???

I think I need to name my car -- name adds about $20k

My 85 Prussian Blue targa will forthwith be called Lady Blue and I'll entertain any offers over $75k. I did put in billy sports and a momo after all. And I'll even throw in the H4 upgrade for free

As a retailer, I noticed how much of a difference G50 tranny makes in a sale.. It's almost like there is a G50 cult out there .. So yea, asking $57k for 100K mile car that does not have the "magical" tranny, I'd say this seller might struggle a bit with the sale.

I read the eBay listing and then saw it here on Pelican too. It’s a very nice looking car which appears to be well taken care of and does have some nice mods. On the other hand I agree with msort and the board here, there is nothing about that car to make it a high 50’s car. No mention of records or maintenance or much history.

The brake work is interesting but on the street are you really taxing the original brakes to the point that you need such an upgrade? The upgraded AC components are nice especially in Florida. The seats look out of place. If the door cards were so well done in matching leather why not do the seats to match too? The Momo is nice but its $250 bucks from our host. The stereo does nothing for me I could care less. The M&K set up is nice, I have a similar GT3 M&K myself. There are plenty of nice odds and ends but they’re fairly common (other than his choice of brake upgrade) and they’re specific to the owners taste. I believe that color was on the pallet for 1986 but it was an extra cost option. Happens to be one of my favorites too.

Unfortunately what someone has into a car has no impact on the market value of the car. In the end it’s a very nice looking 86 with 100k on the clock and some nice mods…. High $30’s low $40’s?? Well I hope he gets his price... a rising tide etc etc...

Shaun…. I agree with the naming thing… Hence forth my 88 Cassis Red Targa will be known as Cassie.

If I follow the seller of the Vanilla car lets see… 88 targa with 66k. M&K Pre Muffler and GT3 Style 1 in. Rear Valance for the GT3 Style Muffler PAINTED TO MATCH (the seller of the vanilla car skipped that step). Steve Wong 93 chip. Lindsey Fuchs, 17 x 8 and 9. Momo Prototipo with color matched leather. Top is perfect, not been folded since Dan at Cars Inc redid it. Spare top in in excellent condition but I use it so its been folded. 16 by 6 and 7 Fuchs satin finish done by Wheel Enhancement. All records, keys, COA etc etc. Oh and I just put in the J West Engineering shifter bushing (feels awesome, the throws are tight and perfect now). I am sure I am forgetting some stuff but with this new charging for the name I figure I am good for $75K??? Give or Take! I am not holding my breath waiting for $75k at least not for another 10 years or so.
