Luxsport at it again ....

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/871842-sale-1990-porsche-964-carrera-4-targa-white-black-53k-miles-48-995-a.html

and I quote...."WE PURCHASED THIS CAR DIRECTLY FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN CALIFORNIA"

A quick VIN scan tells me this cars never been registered in California. They may want to let the "original owner" they claim to have purchased it from know he doesn't live in California.

It also tells me that the title has changed hands a number of times in Kentucky and Tennessee in addition to Florida where it last resided.

These guys rate a big fat ZERO in ETHICS, at least by my judgment. But hey, thats just my opinion.

The fact that Lance has claimed on this board that he sells 300 air cooled 911's a year is just pathetic when you see the same cars over and over for months on their website. No one is selling 300 air cooled 911's a year out of any location.

I thought they got the boot from Pelican?

and I quote...."THIS EXTREMELY RARE VEHICLE (SAME OWNER SINCE 1994)"

I did a title search and I only counted three owners. They're close only off by two!! Oh and I didnt count the dealer in Florida they bought it from!

I saw those ads. What a joke. The all caps thing is for 12 year olds. And their photos are more reworked than a playboy model.

I don't have any constructive input here, but my question is, since it appears to be documented and continuous fabrication in his descriptions, why is he allowed to remain on the site and offer cars for sale? Every forum I'm on will ban you for unethical behavior.

Completely unrelated to LuxSport, these ads remind me of a situation a friend of mine found himself in a couple of years ago. My friend likes to dabble with old cars, and had a nice Morgan that he owned for about 4 or 5 years. The car was lovely, but he wasn't driving it any more, so he advertised the car locally on craigslist and after a few weeks, a dealer from Santa Barbara calls him, drives down to see the car and they made a deal. My friend was satisfied with the transaction and went on to buy something else. About a month later, the dealer lists his old car on eBay with a fabulous tale about how the prior owner was a meticulous engineer who bought the car new in the 1960's and maintained it fanatically by his own hand, drove the car sparingly in and around Santa Barbara until he was physically unable, and then stored the car in his garage for 10 years until the dealer rescued it and brought it back to it's former glory. All fabricated. When it comes to cars, trust but verify.

Unfortunately for me I have been laid up for the last few weeks. I stumped the docs at two hospitals including U Penn and spent the better part of two weeks in the hospital. I am out but I can only work a couple hours a day before I am too tired. Needless to say I have some free time and I have access to a lot of info. Getting stronger every day.

Great story! And a good lesson for all.
