There were 3 GT4's at Lime Rock today. They weren't even close to being considered rare among the other cars there. Unreal collection.

How long will it take for the first 991 GT3s to drop to affordability? EBay is loaded with 2015s now.....
|
I've a bet with a friend that 991 gt3 will be under 100k next year. I like my steak med rare.
I don't expect the 991 to follow the 997 and 996 depreciation curves. The newest "digital" experience will always be faster. In fact I'm still surprised to date a car I got over 2 years ago for what could be described as "cheap" could sell for quite a bit more than I paid. That just doesn't happen with newer cars. And in my head it's worth no more than I paid and I drive the car as intended 20-30 track days a year and a maintenance bill to show for it. I guess the 996-997 gt cars are the last of the "analog" water cooled cars. Maybe if the next gt are turbo or hybrid we seem something similar. These cars are very, very reliable for how hard they are driven but maintaining them PROPERLY is not for the faint of heart. Never add up the receipts. With a gt3 you don't look at track use as an only indicator. You buy the seller and then have a race shop inspect the car. They have to know what to look for. Trust me, my car is cleaner than most street only cars, and better maintained. Example, Shop had a car in last week, no track use (supposedly), all kinds of over revs, engine not strong, not high miles either, underbody thrashed, etc. Anyway, a gt4 low options at 90 is a sweet deal. That's how mine would price. Stripper. Any gt3 under 100 is a car you won't regret. They are all such great drives. A pdks will be in my garage but I'm kinda cheap 100k for a stripped gt3 or 130 for the rs :-) I'm patient and can wait. Btw, The really fun part is driving my 89 for 2 weeks getting in my rs and going "holy crap is this thing fast" scared the crap out of myself in it last week lol |
A low option GT4 at list price would be great, around $90k with sport seats.
At the prices the ragged and beat up used GT3's are pulling, I'd seriously consider sending a new 991 GT3 to RUF for a manual 6 or 7 speed box! Does anybody have any idea what that would cost? Just a gearbox swap or "un PDK" the 7 speed (if that's even possible). On the used Ferrari front, the manuals are starting to pull away from the auto box units in resale value as well. I know quite a few F360's have been converted to manual and I think a few F430's have been converted as well. It's a different market of course where high miles render a car almost unmarketable (compared to similar Porsches), but interesting nonetheless. I've heard quite a few high end dealers look at really clean high mile Ferrari's and get almost pissed off and say something like "what the heck am I gonna do with a 60k mile Ferrari? |

F-Ferrari. no desire there. let them have their mileage drama |
Only reason I could see selling a GT4 now would be because it was purchased with only speculation in mind. This car is so much fun, it certainly would take a very large (silly) premium to let it go.
I also don't get the desire for a PDK option. With the auto blip function on, shifting is essentially the same quickness as PDK and a heck of a lot more fun. Only reason I can see to consider a PDK in this model is if you physically couldn't use a clutch. Porsche hit it out of the park with this one. |
PDK option was just announced for next year's allocations. I bet we actually see some sold so that guys can move over from the manual to PDK. A lot of guys are stuck on the crappy tall 2nd gear ratio. PDK solves that problem.
The racecar will also be PDK but don't tell anyone I told you. |
And by then there will be a 3rd party gearing solution for that perceived issue for the cost of PDK and, best of all, it will still be one of the best manual shifting cars on the planet.
Of course the race car will have PDK because it is a.......race car. :) |
From whom?
I made 3-6. 2nd is on the mainshaft. It's going to cost $5000 to fix. I'm not investing $50k in parts that won't sell. |
QUOTE=G450X;8782278]With the crazy used GT3 prices these days, the GT4 looked like a nice alternative to the GT3, so I replaced the used GT3 with a new GT4 as a have to have "bucket list" car - but wait, they're limited production and sold out instantly, and it seems like many buyers are flipping them on the used marked at silly premiums like used GT3's...
What's a guy to do?? I think RUF can convert a new GT3 to a real 6 speed, that might be worth considering on a used PDK only GT3. I have to have a real manual, I just want an enjoyable driver. My other thought is to dump all that money into an expensive backdate (Singer-esque) of my old 911SC and forget all this new stuff! I have a lightly modded e46 M3 for longer trips where comfort is more important.
here you go 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 - $79999 (Seattle) https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5214393510.html |

This could be an indication of whether or not there is genuine pent up demand. Though some might be intimidated by the border crossing. His loss is your gain. Yeah right. |
I saw three Alfa 4C Launch Editions at Line Rock on Monday.

here you go
2007 Porsche 911 GT3 - $79999 (Seattle) https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5214393510.html
That looks like a fair price these days - a 997.1, 18k miles and no track time for $79k. I'm a few years out from being a serious buyer, but I would probably jump on that one if I was ready! Thanks, I guess they're out there, you just have to dig. I hope in the future the Porsche GT section will have pity on us old guys who love to shift and offer a manual in all of the GT cars. I think a manual in the new GT cars would ease the frenzy to snap up the older GT3 cars. |

No matter, the gears are fine for me and anyone thinking about PDK could hopefully drive the manual first. Choosing PDK seems to me like throwing the baby out with the bath water, with a couple of exceptions. Anyway, back to the market. Surprised to see the Saphire Blue car at only one bid. Maybe because it's in Canada? |
The ring and pinion is even less feasible. I worked with Ricardo on it for 2 years without a good solution. Jack Baldwin did one with emco that could make it through a single world challenge race.
I repeat, I've done 3-6. They are on the market already. It's the mainshaft we don't see as a viable product so no changing 2nd gear. G450x, 3 years is a long time. I'm pretty confident both gt4s and 997 gt3s will be cheaper then. |
I hope you're right about GT3 & GT4 "futures" pricing Matt!
On the GT4 transmission modifications - I couldn't imagine trying to sort out the viability of manufacturing a transmission part for one of the newer P cars. The "antiquated" 915 has alot to offer in terms of gear and R&P swaps while offering somewhat reasonable repair costs... |
