I know of a car very similar to this in my neck of the woods. I never thought it was worth $10k.
Hell, you can sell the wheels and be ahead of the game.

A converted 76 Targa is still worth something - not to most of the people here, but several thousand dollars easily. If the flares are steel, thats a plus. if the top is a Porsche part and not an aftermarket contraption, that's a good thing as well.

Most important is what its worth to you. If the wide body look is what you desire, you have something very special. Good luck with the paperwork. DO NOT put any money into the car until you have cleared all the legal hurdles.

You appear to be a quick study, and you've already figured that there is a lot of chaff with the wheat here, but you're lucky. The two most knowledgeable people here have already chimed in. You'll learn a lot and have a ton of fun getting your ride up and running. (Assuming that is possible, and that the engine's ultimate fate is not to be a boat anchor.)

Sorry guys, I have been awfully busy and haven't been able to make the time to spend on the computer. Honestly ,I am not trying to be rude by not responding to the questions that I have been asked, I am just spread a little thin the past few days. Good day All, I'm back with some answers to your various questions. I bet a few of you thought that I'd lost interest, nope just busy. So here goes, Yes the car is sitting high in the back, the engine was removed when the po decided after 3 years of leaking oil it was time to put a 350 in the 911. After the shop removed the oil encrusted 3.0 and told the guy what it would cost for a V8 conversion, PO said no way maybe just a rebuild...after quote on that, and receiving the bill on labor to that point $850.00 PO said screw it you can keep it. That was Aug 2011. The shop owner told me that it was running ok just leaking oil, when he began this odyssey. this is a small town and I trust him having been acquainted for 20 + years. more to follow as work beckons. He balked at $850 labor? He should have gotten the whole rebuild quote up front. Turn he would have known what he was in for. What a ding dong. You liberated this car.
