What did I buy, how can I figure its worth?

I recently bought let me rephrase that I recently stole a 1973 911. The car was abandoned by the previous owner at auto repair shop and the owner hating Porsches gave me a great deal on it after having it for 3 years. The car is a 1973 911 convertible you got the wide fenders whale tail and it's got a 1978 3.0 motor with it The paint is nice red with red sparkly ghost flames hidden in it Interiors beautiful wheels and tires brand new Yokohamas on black 5 spoke carrera wheels.. I've attached a picture to win this and if you tell me what I need to find out what it is that would much appreciated. You don't even want to know how much I paid for it but ask me and I'll tell thanks in advance. Animal

ImAnimal 09-10-2015 09:02 PM

ImAnimal 09-10-2015 09:15 PM

Here is a pic of the newest Other Woman !http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1441948501.jpg

Ferrariguyma 09-11-2015 03:49 AM

As described

The car is worth 8500-12500 to the right buyer.

2ndTARGA 09-11-2015 04:36 AM

That VIN belongs to a 1976 Targa, which is more consistent with the bumpers, dual flag mirrors, etc. Who would have gone to that much trouble to update a long hood into a mid-year? What makes you think it's a '73? Is there a title or do you have to go through getting one if it's an abandoned car/mechanic's lien?

Also, why does it have Euro side marker lamps? - where is this located?

Lot's of questions but something about this story doesn't add up.

timchar 09-11-2015 04:38 AM

Porsche didn't make a "convertible" in 73, also, the motor not in the car? Tim

Or not.

Might as well put myself first in line for the wheels.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Over the years I've lost count of the number of longnose updated to IB. And cabriolet conversions out if targas were pretty common for a while too. Guys wanted to have the newest latest greatest 911 but it was often cheaper to fake that on a ten year old car they already owned.

Regardless sounds like a 76 targa cab conversion to me. $7500-10k as she sits.

MBAtarga 09-11-2015 07:15 AM

Rear sits VERY high for it to have an engine installed.

Did u get a title? Or just bill of sale? If only bos, If the real owner of the car comes forward and claims the car with a title and involves the police he gets the car back for free or u go to jail. Title trumps unlawfull bill of sale. May be a disputed bill with shop owner.

U admitted above that u stole it, right? The shop owner can not sell without applying for mechanics lien and going thru a court with a judge.

vintagecarlover 09-11-2015 09:11 AM

What did u pay for the car and why was it taken to the shop for repair? How much was repair bill?

Is there a statute of limitations, after which an item is deemed to be res nullius?

dienstuhr 09-11-2015 12:49 PM

You had me at "ghost flames".

Southbay356 09-11-2015 12:59 PM

there are so many Targa "Cabrios"

if they are better conversions they used factory parts , some used homemade top frames ,

if you have put a cabrio conversion back to a Targa I would love to hear how it worked :) and what you had to do

MrAlien 09-11-2015 01:14 PM

a custom 73 targa, engine not installed, depending on the quality of the work and condition of the paint and rest of the car I would ball park it at $8k-10k. The engine was obviously taken out of the car for a reason, no telling what it needs.

ImAnimal 09-11-2015 03:20 PM

Thanks for all the replies and info. With so many inquiries to address, I feel a mini novel coming on so....when it quiets down this evening i'll give you all of the stats on this car that I can. since I am new on site, what is the best way to post pertinent pictures. As far as stealing the car.... NOT LITERALY. When I first saw the car it was supported on railroad ties no wheels & tires, no engine. The picture I added was just as I saw it.:D I jokingly offered $600.00 and I was shocked when I was told " come get it out of here, the wheels & tires are in storage along with the engine." Thanks again.... More to follow later, Animalhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442013399.jpg

Car is worth very little if you don't have a clear title. I have handled litigation in matters such as this and it really doesn't matter what you " stole" this car for as without a transferrable title may not even be yours at this point.

Did the OP lose interest in this thread after realizing his pot of gold wasn't worth $50k?

I hope he didn't "steal" it for more than $20k :D

ImAnimal 09-11-2015 05:11 PM

lien filed, prev. owner contacted. all is well

ImAnimal 09-11-2015 05:16 PM

didn't lose interest. I personally think that was rude. imho. how does "stealing" it for six hundred sound.....that's what I PAID

2ndTARGA 09-11-2015 05:21 PM

^^
Most new members on this forum who want to be a part of it say something to the effect of "thanks to everyone for all the input" instead of ignoring responders all day and then insulting them. Good luck getting any more input from this crowd.

It sounds like you shamelessly took advantage of someone that didn't know any better.

^^^ Don't mind this guy. That's just his way of asking what he has to do to get his hands on your newfound booty.

I take it you've recently stocked up on Big Blues, then?!?!?! Mom'll be happy to hear it!!!

Matt Monson 09-11-2015 05:49 PM

It's the Ronnie and Bob show. I was gonna guess the new member is another playa identity.

Ronnie's.930 09-11-2015 06:02 PM

^^^ Speaking of shows, Matt, have you seen Bob's sister perform?! Don't even need to wear 3d goggles for that one!!!

ImAnimal 09-11-2015 06:04 PM

Hey guys I didn't mean to start no civil war I did compose a text back thanking everybody for their input and their help and included a picture and obviously it didn't make it there for some reason I'm not some flake and if this is the way new people are greeted well what can I say but to those of you who did help me out with good advice thank you very much and the people just want to cause hate and discontent have fun I'm out. Animal

Matt Monson 09-11-2015 06:22 PM

Dude, nobody is trying to create hate and discontent. We get a lot if driveby posters here. They start a thread hoping they found the next barnfind of a factory prototype and when it isn't they leave sulking never to be heard from again.

If you want to put your new used car back on its feet the tech forum is full if great people. You want to dump out of it for a handy profit we've got a good used cars and used parts area. It's a community with tens of thousands of people. Don't write it off just because 1 guy made a remark that in all honesty wasn't really personal in the first place. We don't know you unless you let us get to know you.

2ndTARGA 09-11-2015 06:25 PM

No sweat Animal - everyone is welcome here and it's all good fun!!!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442024691.jpg

pnut_lee 09-11-2015 06:46 PM

My apologies animal, definitely not personal. I've only been hanging around the marketplace discussion forum for a short while and these guys are already rubbing off on me. Wait, that didn't sound right........

Good deal if $600 was the true purchase price, but I find that hard to believe. Maybe from a 90 year old widow, but from a guy in the car business? He'd have to be a complete fool to let the car go that cheap........even if he did hate Porsches........

ImAnimal 09-11-2015 07:02 PM

Thanks All, I am not just passing thru. the truth is I was in the right place at the right time, and I finally got After 40 plus years a car that resembles my high school dream car ( turbo Carrera ). I want to learn all I can about this vehicle and I feel that this is just the place to gain that knowledge
. And hopefully gain a few like minded friends along the way. once again....Thanks All, Animalhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442026905.jpg
