Fully Sorted...
This phrase is becoming overused in the sale of our Porsches.
Just like "rare", "vintage", etc. Can someone clarify the true meaning?

Why everyone knows that answer, as explained clearly here:
![]() Seriously, it is indeed an overused phrase. And coincidentally when I googled images for that phrase it's surprising how many photos of Porches there are.

I think it conveys the sellers assertion that the car needs nothing. How many such cars - particularly old air-cooled Porsches - exist in the real world is anyone's guess but it's certain to be a very small number.

We used to say..."Wow, that car is really fixed up!" Or, " It has a re spray" is used a lot instead of it was just painted. Or... " New Paint". Kind of the snooty world of Porsche. My 85 Carrera has VW bug dome lights, smells like a 67 Bug and sounds like a 67 Bug with a large hairdryer inside the engine. My car has not been re painted. But it is kind of fixed up.

only minor housekeeping repairs needed……
Actually to anyone with experience in restoration or a high performance build, the process of sorting is a time consuming and expensive task and the claim will not be taken lightly. I did two major builds and the sorting process was the most arduous of tasks in the completion of the builds. Examples: There are many minor tasks required to properly install a modern motor such as a 3.2 into a long hood including but not limited to fuel system upgrade and electrical harness replacement. While these are not required they would be completed in a fully sorted install. Another would be the proper tuning of a rebuilt MFI engine. Again, this is a task that takes the painstaking adjusting of many factors to be properly accomplished. Try removing a flat spot at 5000 RPM on a 2.0L S motor or having a properly operating cold start. Properly sorted is the difference of thousands of dollars in a purchase price. I purchased a 1983 Porsche SC for $19,000. I spent another $12,000 resorting the car this included rebuilding AC. Do not get me started on a properly operating windshield washing/wiping systems........... Last edited by Macroni; 09-24-2015 at 05:29 AM.. |

"All of the obvious problems that I know about have received attention.
There may be other problems I don't know about. Some new problems are bound to be just around the corner. And of the problems that I do know about and have had fixed, some of those are likely to annoyingly reappear sometime soon" Old car = never fully sorted

Needs some TLC which, in most cases translates to, needs a complete restoration

I've recently offered my 912 to a member. I don't claim that it is fully sorted. I intended to sort it on my watch but life happened. I have no issue with the term. I just expect that the car had been addressed accordingly if the term is used. It is not a term for a condition 1 or 2 car. It is a term for a really nice condition 3 car that comes with a binder of reciepts. Cars with use need sorting. Beware the dealer and the flipper who has played the game of cosmetic sorting. It will bite you in the end.
