250K Carrera3.o on eBay curious
So what do we know about this
It's certainly a gorgeous car but is this for real? Gorgeous, but not 100% OEM stock with 10k original miles stored in bubble wrap since 1976. Hell, it doesn't even have the right dash board. I'm not nit picking or criticizing, I'm genuinely asking because we don't see many C3s coming up for sale and I have never seen one posted up for sale that was completely restored, restomodded, remedied, whatever. Is this really what these things are worth in that condition right now or is this the pioneer?

Someone already bid 150K..?
It's a bit misleading to say it's got 10,000 miles on it. It's got 10,000 miles since its restoration, how many total miles on the car?

yeah looks that way. That's what prompted me to start this thread.
There is a lot of misleading press about that car. Someone sent me this link Take a read through that one. I thought it was 10k original miles at first too.

The miles seem cool. They clearly state that it had 230k a priori

I think he is trying to be a pioneer. That is 3.0 turbo Carrera money in similar condition. I thought 3.0 Carrera's were worth maybe 25% more than a 78 SC. Maybe the rarity is now driving drives prices higher to catch up with the mid year/74 2.7 Carreras, but not that high. I wonder who the fist bid at $150k was .mmmmmmm

Looks like a high quality restoration. Initial $150K bid is a friend or someone who likes to open bidding with no risk of buying. I could be wrong but time will tell. Another thing that may or may not be important is that the seller is not an experienced eBayer, - only sold 3 items - two of them being furniture and the other a set of BMW wheels that were never received by the buyer - money refunded.

A carrera 3.0 is a six figure car now a days if the restoration is done correctly, no?

A current bid of $150K equals about one dollar per mile, as this car had more than 146K miles when it was purchased in 1994. The claim is that it was then driven for only about three months, when is was put into restoration. This means that along with the subsequent (claimed) 10K miles that have been reported in the listing, the restoration is likely some twenty years old.

This was the car that everyone should have gotten into a couple years ago. No one really cared about them except it was some sort of weird bragging rights when the script was on the rear lid. Interesting market to watch though.

value
Hi,the key to the value lies in the 4th digit of the serial number which is a 6 .That means lineage to the 73 RS.76-77 3.0 cars are the last of the lightweight ones. Most of them were tracked and beat like a stepchild because everyone kind of looked down on them.Probably fewer 3.0 cars left than 76-77 Turbo.Look at 74-75 car values right now with 2.7 mechanical injection.Their 4th digit is a 6 as well. They could end up being worth more because they are the last of the lightweights.3.0 Carrera crank weighs about 5 lbs.less than 3.0 SC CRANK.Thanks Fred

3.0
Hi,correction to the previous post.It is tough to get old most days. The 4th digit is the year.5th digit is 6 for the lightweight family of RS.I finished the post and was looking at pictures of a green 74 3.0 RS that was in my friend Pete Dawes shop in Pa.on my last trip back two weeks ago.Bright green with a 3.0 mechanically injected motor built on 3.0 RSR case #6840112.Uses a loop cooler in the LF fender behind the headlight for trans cooler with black hard lines up the LS rocker from the trans.serial# 9114609093 One of 6 built and supposed to be one of two left in the world. He also had 2 1975 930 Turbos restored in his shop.It was a treat to see the 3.0 RS in the flesh as I have only seen a few photos.I could not imagine the value. Thanks Fred

Euro C3's are relatively collectible but no way 250k. Good few for sale in Europe in the 60k - 80k range. This car in a great color and nicely restored is worth maybe 90-100k IMHO.

didn't read the ebay link except looking at pictures. if someone wants to make good money on it, that's probably why the 250k is at. but for a desirable car that went through a top quality restoration that's at least a 100k+ worth of work. just gotta find that one guy who can appreciated the work & doesn't want to wait for the down time. that part i get it.

The colour Jade was available for 1974 and 1975 models but not officially offered for 1976 so either a 'special wish' or just resprayed that colour. Also engine number is a bit out of sequence with the VIN for it to be original.

I would never pay that kind of money for a car that colour.

This car is now being posted on Pelican now as well. His ask price is simply ridiculous. Pricing on 75-77 3.0 Carrera cars in Europe for a condition 1 (i.e. concourse) is 65.000€.
Despite the very nice restoration work on this car, pricing this car for anything above $75,000 is just dreaming. Non-original color repaint with 250,000 miles, etc... is not what collectors pay condition 1 money for. Having said that, the car looks well done and I think the color is great too... |
