Is transmission info available from the VIN? (993)
I found this car and it is interesting. IMO the price is too high. The car has no documentation from the 3 previous owners and the dealer said it was a trade in. I've asked for a photo of the options sticker but haven't received it yet. Someone has obviously decoded it since the rosewood options are mentioned (but not on the car). I don't think the dealer wants to work with an educated buyer.
1995 Porsche 911 Carrera for sale in New Jersey ![]() A quick google search of the VIN brings this up, EXP Autos Pro - Category:German-sold - Make:Porsche - Model:1 - Detail Very similar mileage but listed as an automatic. From the photos on the Porsche dealer site you can tell the shift knob isn't factory. You think it was swapped? |

VIN won't tell you transmission. Option codes won't either. You would need a COA.
As for switching the gearbox? It's a $10-15k conversion. Not likely someone would spend that to flip a car, even in today's market.

Yes - there's a mystery here somewhere but not sure what it is. The main things pointing to them being the same car (aside from stated VIN) are color combination, mileage and dealers that are 28 miles apart. All pretty strong evidence.
But, while adding 1K miles did someone really change the trans, pedals, remove all the wood, swap wheels and add the aero bumper and wing? It's hard to fathom as Matt said. I agree the price is too high, but if interested I'd talk to someone at The Stable, Ltd. and see what they know about it. They may still have interior photos. UPDATE: Then again, there is the matter of the small PCA decal in the same place on the windshield in both photos. Another coincidence??

COA is often wrong ,
and old Kardex files were hand written , sometimes things left off ( like build date ! ) and then 20-30 years later someone tries to figure out the scribbles.... All said its better than having nothing , but you have to understand some of the problems

In my searches earlier this year you wouldn't believe the number of dealers I saw that listed Boxsters as Tips but in the picture it was clearly a manual car. If you can find some interior pictures from that earlier listing that would clear it up.
Or, on a PPI a good mechanic will be able to see the signs that the swap has been done. With a 1000 mi difference all the fasteners are going to be freshly disturbed and obvious.
