Contemplating S/T project..
So bought a fairly cheap long hood hot rod and contemplating on making a proper S/T tribute out of it and sell it.
911E chassis 3.0L engine 915 transmission Fiberglass fender flares (unfortunately) The car will need lots of stuff, including complete paint job. The old color is in a bad shape, plus I want to change it. Trying to stay within the budget so it will be a windows out paint job.. Any idea what this car will be worth once finished? I know it's hard to tell right now since it's just a project in making.. But I figured that if I have a decent S/T tribute, made out of 911E long hood, it could be anywhere between $85k - $110k. Any thoughts? (And yea, I wish I have the budget and time to do a proper rotisserie paint job, and mounting proper steel fender flares.. But I am a small time dealer and simply can't afford that right now. But do want to make a nice car out of it. Not a junk!) |

I would spend the money on steel flares , it will be a deal breaker to any buyer who has someone in the "know" do a PPI , and really not that much $$$ on a $100K car
Plus there are often problems with cracks where the steel body and fiberglass flares mate. sounds like a fun project , just start shopping for parts , you save lots of money buying parts that someone changed plans and are selling at a good discount

Many here will disagree, some even violently; I think S/T is sooo much yesterday. Stock is the way to go if your only purpose is to make money.
Since S/T is a popular mod right now, the risk is that it will be out of fashion when you are done in a year. Even if S/T:s are still in demand then a stock 911 E will be worth more than a quickly slapped together S/T. Just look at the different kind of mods that have been popular over the last 30 years; G model update, 935 update, Carrera RS update, backdate to F-model, S/T, RSR, R.... In 5 years people will start to correct backdated cars, cut off the RS flares and S/T flares, in the same way I cut off 935 fiberglass 10 years ago. Regards, Johan

You are going to put time, money, and effort into the car and then have to find someone that wants that exact car. I would sell it as it is, and I am not saying that because it sounds like something I would be interested in. You can, however send me the info if you like.

The ST engine was 2380cc not 3000cc. The ST qtrs were remfg by Dick troutman. He installed them on my racecar in 1974. Might want to see if some of those are still floating around in Southern Ca or Temecula, ca

I also think the fiberglass fenders is a deal killer. No way would I pay strong money for an ST tribute without steel fenders. I would either not bother or sell it as it is.

Is the suspension and brakes going to be better done than the last one? You deserve some value added if you bought someone's project to finish, but since you haven't given much detail on the standard it's hard to say end value. Though as has been alluded to, if you leave the glass flares on the car and don't redo them steel it's a ding to the big picture perception of the standard. Is the motivation to leave them that the car is already painted? Might be worth it to paint the rear third again after the flares are steel, wide or original depends on the front fenders.
