1989 Collectability
Just bought a 85k mile original guards red paint, tan interior, two owner 1989 Coupe with all records and window sticker. Curious what you guys thought the value of it is and if it is a true collectible car considering it's the last of the 3.2s?

1989 was a good year for Porsche but I don't think a plain sunroof coupe is a collector car- they made too many of them- if it is a M491 Turbo body, a Speedster or a Turbo with a 5 speed transmission that had low production numbers it will get a lot more attention as collectable.

They are all collectable. Low production numbers, iconic design, timeless beauty, incomparable driving performance etc pretty much guarantee that.

Any car can be "collectable" pretty much any air cooled Porsche is sought after now as Pmax mentioned.
But as for pecking order, older as a rule of thumb is better, or more collectable, unless your car has some special features as Xbrumossalesman pointed out, It is pretty much a nice used car in todays market, that is no longer dropping in price and is gaining in value but no where near the price of the new 911, so still a used car. The option for people who can not afford the new one. So If you bought the car to drive then drive it. If it bother's you to put miles and wear and tear on such a nice car that is to much of a collectable to you, then sell it and buy one you are willing to drive. If you bought the car because you think it is a rare and cool collectable, then it is to you and treat it as the rare and cool collectable you think it is and other people just have not caught on yet. I think the main driver of the Porsche collectable car market is well "drivers" of their collectable Porsche, so if you do save it like the previous owner did, you are saving it for a future driver anyway. All good points. Thanks guys! I bought the car to enjoy. I always put lots of miles on my Porsches... We'll see if I keep it or sell it after some time.

Keep the car. It's a collectible for sure. You don't say what you paid for it but I bought an 87 Targa that would not be in the demand column a 89 Coupe would be and I've been offered twice what I paid for it but have decided to keep it as I enjoy it. Your car will appreciated no problem John |

Xbrumos, do you know of any hidden 89 turbo cabs or targas which may be for sale not being advertised in the mainstream? i'm thinking about slimming down from 2 Porsche's to 1 but still want an open top. there are several cabs and 1 targa I know of for sale. I could go with a 491, but a speedster is way more than I want to pay.
