Not that surprising. Pretty weak link to McQueen.

It was at Christies... Not an area where I have any expertise - but Christies doesn't seem like the place to sell a car like this. Especially tucked in amongst a bunch of objet d'art

They should have gotten Chris Harris to do a video about it first :-)

I dunno, for what the actual slate gray one he drove in the movie this one seems like a bargain. Anything associated with him and the movie usually turns a good penny. I don't think the estimate was that far out of line for this car.

McQueen 71 911T auction

This is puzzling.

My first guess is the fact McQueen never owned this car.

My second guess is that this was not a 911 crowd. Couple that with it's a T not a S.

If I read the link correctly, McQueen never owned or drove the car, it was simply given to an actress who appeared in the film - big deal.

The car came to Christie’s from racing star Jo Siffert’s estate in Switzerland.

Looks like the Bloomberg writer got it wrong. According to the original Christie's description, the car was purchased from the Siffert collection by McQueen while the movie was being shot. It did not come to Christie's directly from the Siffert estate.
Steve McQueen 1971 Porsche 911 T Coupe
So it's a Siffert car bought by McQueen for his co-star mistress - should have gotten more attention at auction, IMO. But then again, most of the Paris bidders were probably waiting for the $504K sugar bowl.
