Price Thoughts? '01 Turbo Coupe
2001 Turbo Coupe, 36k miles, Tiptronic.
The only service history is the last 3 years but includes the 30k service done around 33k. No books or other records of any sort. 1 original key and remote. Car fax shows no accidents but there has been at least a bumper refinish and left rear quarter spot-in. Wheels need refinishing from curbing, tires more than 7 years old... ok tread but hard Several paint issues on hood from egging in the past. Detailer and paint shop say they can't be corrected out. I'm looking to the brain trust for answers.... |

Without pictures and more details, you're better off looking at NADA or KBB. I will say this: fairly or unfairly, Tiptronic is a giant value killer for these cars.

Mid 30's tops. I was watching that market pretty closely but jumped on another 3.2 that fell into my lap. Agree with Silber, the tip is a killer.

![]() Blue metallic with grey leather. Drivers seat needs a bit of re-dye at edge. Learned the chip has been re-programmed by an independent shop, set to go to 1.0 bar from the factory .8bar Both right wheel edges have been scrapped all around as well as the left rear.... |

Final Update to let you have all the info...
Called 2 well thought of independent shops here in the Los Angeles area to find out about their availability to do a PPI given the upcoming holiday.. 1 shop said the end of the week would work but not to bother.... The re-programmed ecu with the increased boost makes it a car to avoid... 1 shop said after Thanksgiving.... They also said that re-programming the ecu is not ideal and it could be returned to OEM specs for about $900 but that it shouldn't have hurt the car much but there is no way of telling for sure... And the last info.... I have a 1-owner (prior to me) 1996 993 w/ 64k miles. All original keys, books, etc. Just had an extensive 60k service at a well known Los Angeles shop with a clean bill of health. White w/ Savannah Beige leather. Totally original to the floor mats... Yet also a Tiptronic... We have the tip so other family members drive the car... So it's either keep the 993 or buy the turbo..... No more peeps from me.... Just let me know what to offer... Thanks!! Any shop that tells you a chipped 996 turbo is one to avoid, is a shop I would avoid. They are chipped all the time and adds a ton of HP with very little risk (if done properly), in fact its the #1 upgrade suggested on most forums.
Perhaps they know the shop that tuned it and that could be their reason to suggest avoiding it, but to simply say you shouldn't even get a PPI on a car that is chipped means they don't know what they are doing, or just don't want the work.

Not sure I know many people here in CT that haven't tuned there turbo. Keep the 993. Also eggs normally etch the clear. Often wet sand and buff can be done to avoid repainting.

If the PPI is clean, I think mid $30's is a good deal due to the lower mileage. Don't think the flash will hurt the engine too much (mezger engines are pretty built proof). I'm in the market for a 996tt and lots of them have been neglected. Be careful. Obviously a $115k plus vehicle isn't cheap to fix.

Doesn't sound like previous owner took very good care of the vehicle, or paid much attention to the details. Running 7 year old tires on that car speaks volumes to what kind of person owned it. That along with a lack of records would make me want to walk away. Take your time and you'll know when you find the right car. You'll be running to the bank instead of Pelican Parts Forum!
