I need to have my 75 911S repainted. The paint job from a few years ago has micro blisters apparently from a inoperative moisture trap.
Color is Peru Red and Peru Red isn't my favorite Porsche color ![]() Would painting the car a different color (say Guards Red or metallic blue) reduce the value of the car? The car overall is a 8/10. ![]()

Might be easier/cheaper to sell it and find a different one in the color you prefer.
If you are happy with the car and want to keep it, paint it what you want but be prepared to disassemble it completely and get all areas resprayed. Big $$$ that won't be recovered if you sell it anytime soon. But if you go that route, it becomes your car to keep and enjoy....you won't see financial gains and many buyers want original. Another thought since I'm the former owner of a '76 metallic blue (originally silver) Porsche. Look into non-metallic colors. There were some really cool 1970s colors that will 'fit' your car well.

As is, the car might bring $28,000.
A good quality color change might cost around $10,000. The repainted, color changed car might bring $32,000. In the original color, the non-color change (say $8,000.) repainted car might bring $33,000. Forget about the repaint, rather machine polish & wax it and have a pro fix the blisters. I consider Peru Red a premium color, as do many others.
But by all means, paint it a color you like. ![]()

I didn't know it was possible to fix the blisters without a respray?

If you are going to fix it, fix it in the original color. As TW says it's a premium color.

If you can see primer under the blisters, then it is not fixable without a do-over. And even if you can't see the primer, once the paint is color-sanded so that the blisters are "flat", pits will be left behind that polish and wax will go into and be basically impossible to remove - and would be very visible on red.

Yet another paint code - name controversy?

Changing the color isn't a good idea. A differentiating point to the P Car as prices have risen are matching number powertrain and original paint and interior colors. Even going from leatherette to real leather isn't an issue given the values as long as the colors remain correct. Alternately... It's your to enjoy and if your not looking to the future resale value go with whatever makes you smile...

I think if it can be changed from original, it can be changed back to original just as easily and thus shouldn't affect value.

I think it also depends on what the original color was. I have a 1973T that was originally Sepia Brown (probably the least desirable color) which the previous owner changed to aubergine. I think that probably enhanced the value, all else being equal.
