66 912 Value

With all the recent crazy prices it is hard to tell what cars are listed for vs. what they are selling for.

I am looking at a 66 912 coupe. Will need floors and usual restoration, paint, etc.

Does anyone have actual data on SWB 912 sales in the last little while? It is easy to see cars listed for 50-70K USD but what are they selling for?

I recognize this SWB is a rare car so want to try and get some actual market data.

Thanks for helping.

Derek

Try the 912 Registry. Also Jeff Trask at European Collectibles. When I was in the 912 club he was to GoTo guy for all things market related.

Put it up on ebay with a high reserve. That will tell you where the immediate market is.

I have been looking for awhile at 912 and bought one 4 months ago.
My take is, a rusted project car that does not run and is mostly there is $10,000 and less depending on how much is there.
A complete but rusted and running 912 is up to $20,000
A no rust, complete basket case 912 is 20,000 to 30,000
No rust, complete, driving 912 start at $30,000
restored 40,000 and up

What's the mechanical condition? You only list cosmetic.

If its the one I'm thinking of it doesn't run (engine turns) and is only $25k Cdn which is only $18k USD. Seems like a good price if all it needs is floors. I'd be surprised if it is still for sale.

That will be tough for the OP to do considering he is apparently looking to buy a "needs work" 912, not sell one.

Matt, should I start in disparaging 912s now (you know, no power or acceleration, baja ride height, no brakes, Grandpa's grocery getter, etc.)!?!?!?

He makes a living selling the cars, so his ideas on valuations are always significantly higher than actual market. Sure, #1 SWB cars might fetch into the 80s and 90s, but the kind of cars we're talking about here are more likely #3 or between #3 and #4. So, a third to a half that kind of top-of-market stuff.
