1969 912 for 13k good deal?

Was wondering what you experts thought about this car.

There is a local vintage car dealership that always has 911's/912's and this is where the guy bought it from. Payed 12.9 and wants 13k firm.

You guys think its worth it? 95k miles and runs/drives

Yup has floors. Not a scam either I know who he bought it off also. Wonder what these go for?

Here's him with a few other pics in this ad.

Craigslist almost never flags listings. Craigslist users often do, however.

I've seen 'too good to be true' ads flagged and sometimes think it's the other people selling similar cars and asking for more money.

That's true and what I was thinking also. Anyway I'm checking the car out at 2pm tomoro. Hopefully not too big of a project.

Anyone have any tips/pointers on what main thing to look for besides pan rust? Seller did mention it'll need a fuel tank because lots of sediments in it from sitting.. Big red flag or what? Let me know what you guys think and wonder if jt should pass or run.

Thanks

They go for whatever someone is willing to pay. The big question should be are you willing to invest the time and money to bring it back. Any car will cost a lot to restore. If you do it right then the value should be there if you ever do sell it. The cheaper they are the more they usually cost in the end so buy the best you can find for as cheap as you can. Hopefully the worst case is you break even.

Looks like a lot of rust and bondo in there.

Rear flares look pretty suspect, even from bad pics.

I'm betting that car is a fright pig up close, but it is a low ask for a complete car.

There are 2 types of 912's. One where you can see the rust, and the other where you can't. It's ALWAYS there.

Rockers are always suspect. Floors are easy in comparison to suspension pickups points. You better get that thing up on a lift. Bring a magnet and a strong flashlight. There's a good reason why it's so cheap.

The engine is the easy part. You could spend double the asking price on the body alone. Tread VERY carefully, my friend. Very carefully.

bring a magnet to check for bondo ,

a big powerful flashlight

a small mirror to check behind things

front and rear suspension mounting points are safety items where there is rust or bad repair

This may be the car I passed on about 5 years ago. It was in Youngstown Ohio then. $2000.00. Had it up on a trailer and didn't like what I seen underneath.

The great Max once owned a 912?

Thanks for the info guys and yup
Seems like most these cars are hit or miss. I'm not looking to do a full resto on it but I'd like to bring it to a decent condition to be able to enjoy driving it then move on up to the real 911's and maybe a 930 by the time I graduate. Will keep you updated going to see the car tomoro if it's not gone by then.

I just want to know what degree I can get so I can afford a 930 when I graduate, and not have $250k in school debt to pay off at the same time.

I have one more year of engineering school left. No debt all paid off by me. So maybe it's possible. There were a lot of people who told me I'd never find a running/driving air cooled Porsche for under $20k and since then I've already owned one and found two potential buys. Time till tell.
