Value of core 74 Sport Seats?

So the seats in my 74 are real deal middie manual adjust sport seats. The seats are actually in pretty decent condition. But there's a catch. They were dyed red. And then they were dyed back to black. They are super supportive and comfortable but long term they just aren't up to the appearance standard I want for this car.

I have a brand new, still in plastic, set of fixed back aftermarket seats that look period correct that I could install. I'm trying to decide if I recover the old original seats or just put in the reps and move on. Knowing what restorable cores are selling for would help the decision. I've sold some 68 sport seats before but that's a different class of seat!

Install the new seats. Keep the old seats and have them recovered. Bird in the hand.

Sure, that's one approach. I know what it will cost to recover them. But whether storing them is worthwhile depends on their value today and what else I could do with that money. It's not an original car. It's an S title with a 3.2 swap. Will those seats really matter in a decade when I decide to sell? Maybe, maybe not. I've got other interior restoration things to do and am wondering out loud how much of that I could do based on what these "special" seats are worth.

Matt- If it was an all original middle with the CofA showing sport seats then I would absolutely keep the sport seats. That would be important because you might find them hard to come by if you ever needed to go back to original. Since its a non original (and likely won't ever be) hot rod then I personally would sell the seats because the extra $$ could be applied to something that you could actually put in the car today as opposed to seats that are worth fair $$ shoved up on a shelf saving for "tomorrow". Since it looks like you have limited garage space as well...

They are in high demand and worth decent $$ even as cores. Put me down on the list as a potential buyer at a market correct amount if you do decide to sell.

I'd shoot a PM to gearheadgreg. He seems to sell a lot of seats and may want yours.

I guess there's different definitions of limited garage space. I've got 6 other sets of seats out in the barn. Just because you can't park a car in it doesn't mean stuff don't fit. and it's not some drafty old barn. It's a climate controlled barn built 7 years ago with heat and AC. The idiot who built it just "forgot" the roll up door because he built it to kennel 14 champion Akidas.

I haven't gotten a COA. I would before I would sell anything. It's just a 911, not even an S. I'm 100% sure the 930 wheels aren't original. I'm more like 80% sure the seats aren't.

Hey Matt,
I've seen cores actually sell for almost nothing to over $1,500... depending on the condition. Here's one up in Fort Collins that sold not too long ago:

btw, the guy who built your barn is smarter than me, I keep my Akita in the back seat

nope, those are 80-84 and not quite the same seat. the 74-79 specific have bigger bolsters and large early style metal hinges.

Matt,

If seats just need new covers - $1.5-2k. I'd say these are probably worth at least $5k restored, lots of guys with valuable 930's that would like a set. Happy B-day!

I'd keep them and wait for a rainy day. You never know what project or part will fall into your lap.

Still on the fence regarding these seats. Pulled the passenger seat last night. If I am reading the comments in the 930 correctly these are 76-77 seats? They really are in pretty good shape it's just a bummer that some yahoo dyed the red and tried to make it black. I would be super stoked if they were still red. I'd base my interior on it.

I trust these guys when they explain that there are actually 3 different seats between 74 and 80.

well there is one basic design for seat and two different styles of seat release knob, 74-75 used a round knob and 76-80 versions used a squarish know with a notch for finger-
