87 granite green 911 value

Hello Guys

I am trying to get a value on my 87 911. Values are all over the place so I thought I would post here for a knowlegeable opinions. I might sell it.

It is a 87 Granite Green with burgundy or wine colored interior. 216000 Kilos or aprox 135000 miles. It runs like a top with no know mechanical issues other than speedo doesnt start until I hit 20 miles per hour. I have put 22000 K on it in the 4 years I have owned it with no issues other than as soon as I left the showroom the CHT sensor went. No kidding 15 minutes after I left.

It has some rust in what I think is the kiddney bowl area on the right hand side and a dime sopt on the left rear side just below the door that I had repaired at the same time and some surface rust in the window fram under the seal. It was pretty well a front glass out repaint but still looked like a 10 before hand. New Saint-Gobain windshield and factory seal replaced also.

It has had 3 minor dings inn its life for 1300, 1300 and 800. One during my ownership.
interior is imacculate and I just had the drivers bolster fixed as well as the seat heating element replaced with the LAST new available from the factory
.
When I had the paint work done the rear oil lines and thermostat were replaced.

Car has had regular service at Weissach in Vancouver BC since 1995 and is a CDN car. I am either the second or third owner.

These are the pictures from when I first bought it but it actually looks better now because it doesnt have any rock chips and I replaced a lot of the old rubber.

Thanks
Ken

$40-$45k US. Sold my 87 Granite Green Carrera with 150k miles on it about 18 months ago, so have some reasonable knowledge on that particular car. It is a great color and that appeals to many people looking for that era car. GLWS

How bad is the rust?
Sand and paint?
Or cut and weld?

OP....I am here on the North Shore as well and recently purchased a local MCL car slate grey on black with 157K KMS. I can tell you that you are in a sellers' market still in the Lower Mainland and I was offered in the mid $60's 2 weeks after I purchased the car. There is a nice blue '86 for sale in WV and he is asking $50k I believe.

Who did the body work for you? That will come into play for sure as will how extensive the repair work was, also having full picture documentation will help as well.

Side note; I have had my car on jack stands and probably put 20 hours into cleaning the underside and removed piles and piles of dirt from those nasty to reach areas while my Fuchs have been out getting restored. No rust but you can easily see how it can happen.

Good luck with the sale should you go that route. I would keep it if I were you.

Thanks for the replies.

The rust on the left side was very small, the size of a dime. Window channel, surface rust. On the right side it was bigger and required more work with a panel from Restoration design, all cut out and done correctly. I was told that I could of gone a cheaper route with some of the work but chose not to do so. I wanted it repaired correctly. Paint is flawless except for a chip on the bumper. Once I replace the cowl and rear windshield seals you can not tell it was painted.

I have 1 picture of the work on the right side.

Interior is flawless.

Work was performed by 360 Fabrication in Abbotsford BC, at a cost of aprox $10000.

Value is more than I though.

Thanks

Ken,

From your link, that car is a great color combo, and really presents well. I think the key is the rust. A great repair would be absolutely necessary for a full valuation. Do you have pictures of before/after? Even just "after" pictures would be useful. I think the high numbers given here are reasonable if the repair was really well-done.

I will get some pictures later today and post them. Before and after.

One thing about this color is it looks way better in the shade when you can really notice the green. In the sun it has a gray color to it.

I think that's why it's a desirable color. It's really unusual, and looks great under all lighting conditions.

Unrelated but were you parked on Marine Dr. earlier this week?

I passed by a similar coloured G-body (it was late at night) and was great to see.

I would ask the shop if they have any more pics. How did one side get rusted through like this while the other seems fine ?

Lots of cars with rust like this one and I can see how it happens on the passenger side more than the driver side. The passenger side has a deeper cavern for dirt and junk to sit and rot away. I have spent many hours recently with my car on jack stands and it was unbelievable how much crap was caught up there. In my case the car was still solid but this will be a seasonal cleaning event for sure.

Question for the OP; was your car always here in Vancouver? Mine was and while it has about 80,000 less kms it was driven in the same area. How does the rest of the underside of your car look? Is it possible the car was from out of BC? Good luck with the sale, it will sell fast here in town...

The passenger side seems to trap more dirt, maybe the oil lines help to keep it in place. When I got the car I cleaned the nooks and crannies out and there was a lot of dirt. The body shop said that when they opened it up a tone of crap came out. I allways make a point of cleaning the underside. Underneath is clean just road grime. I clean it and will put it up on blocks and start detailing the underside.

The car has been in Vancouver since 95 for sure but prior to that I dont know. It is a Canadian.

Having a tough time trying to decide if I will sell or not.
