My recent purchase.

I have been lurking on the board here for many years gleaming as much info as I could on the 80's and early 90's air cooled wonders, with the intention of buying 1 someday. Well last year my financial situation changed and I woke up 1 morning in December, said WTF time to do it, went to the bank and had a check made out for what I thought would be a acceptable offer on a 87 911 that had been at their site for 9 months???? and took delivery a few weeks later. Granite Green with burgundy interior and heated sport seats. Love the car, especially above 4000 RPM.

When I bought it I ordered a pile of tune up parts from our host and did a minor service. I have no trouble wrenching but how and the hell do you do the spark plugs?

The only mods I am going to do are new shocks (Billsteins for Boge struts) and a Steve Wong chip. Can anybody recommend what combination shocks to run or just all HD's?

Here are the PIC's.

FYI this board and our host has been invaluable, the knowledge that gets passed down and around is incredible.

THANKS!!!!!!

Ken, a truly beautiful car in a wonderful color. Don't know that I've ever seen Granite Green in person, but now I'm intrigued. Welcome!

FWIW, in my '85 I run Bilstein HD in front, Bilstein Sport in rear -- nice balance between road manners & spirited driving.

Good luck!

I thought that I was handy / wrenchy as well. That is, until I attempted to do the spark plugs in my 83 SC....

83 SC --- Spark plug access

Have you had much success yet?

BTW --- congrats on the purchase. Awesome looking car! Enjoy the driving --- and the wrenching. Please keep us posted on your maintenance/upgrade projects.

great looking car, welcome to the site.

FWIW, spark plugs are not a huge issue. I highly recommend purchasing the plug socket that came with the stock tool kit for our cars, it makes the job much easier. There are a few contributors here that may be able to help you out with that.

This looks like a very nice example.
May I ask what mileage the car has and what price you obtained it for ?

Sweet car and a great color. As for 83 SC, throw away your ac and it will be super simple. Actually its not that hard once you get the hang of doing #4 AND #5. Either original equipment spark plug wrench with good rubber sleeve, or some dexterity with a long nose. Last time I had neither so I used a straw with some chewing gum to fish out the plugs!

It had 194000 Kilometers (120,000 Miles) on it when I bought it which I know is nothing as long as it has been looked after and serviced regularly. I have service history for the last 17 years. I saw a 87 Turbo Look at a local Marina last summer and commented on the condition, very nice, to the owner. He replied that he hoped to get a few more miles out of it as it had only 580,000 Kilometers on it, that is almost 400000 miles. He said it has not been rebuild , only the top end.

I paid $26000 CDN which is a little on the high side but the condition and color combination was the deciding factor. CDN market is small for these cars, just not enough around and the US market seems to be getting thinner also.

I will try the factory spark plug wrench. Thanks for the suggestions.

These are the only 2 interior shots I have, dealer supplied but is as nice as it looks.

Beautiful car! I love the interior. That blood wine color seems to age really well when taken care of. OT I loved my week in Victoria BC. You guys have great beer and if memory serves correct you should be able to get some awesome photos with the new car. The scenery there with all the green should really set off the car!
