914-6 conversion. What is it worth?
 

Hi gents,

Any idea what a 1973 914-6 conversion, fitted with a 3.6L engine, is worth? The car has been stripped to the bare metal and everything has been completely gone over and restored. So it is as new. (Close to $100k spend on this conversion)

I simply have no clue what these "hybrids" go for, but this one surely must be one of the best one out there.

Ant price analysis would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Have chassis modifications been made? Suspension? Brakes? Overall paint quality? Interior quality?

Depending on the quality of the build, a $30k or $50K

I bought this one for $15,000, and it has race history, took the checker at Mid-Ohio, as well as running IMSA. It has a 3.3 with only 1 race.

It going to become a 904 in it's afterlife.

ughhhhhhh....... last week I allowed my anger to cloud my judgement and stuck my foot in my mouth responding to a ad on the Excellence web site..... so I would love not to be a d*ck again this week but I find this use of a hobbyist board very, very frustrating.....

I agree With macaroni , put it for sale what it sells for that's what it's worth !

So if he puts it up for sale for $20 and it sells that is what it is worth? That is what it sold for not what it is worth. I think he wants to avoid leaving money on the table. The guy simply wants to get an opinion from the brain trust as to what price he should put on his vehicle. It is not as easy to price these vehicles compared to stock Porsches where there is a lot of comps. If these threads annoy/offend you then don't click on them.

While I agree that's it sad when 'guys in the business' have to come here and ask what a car is worth, it is what this forum was designed for, so let him ride.....i'd be more concerned from his side about what it says about his level af expertise

Genuine question -- what is a hobbyist board?

A lot of dealers do this. It's just another form of fishing for offers, or doing a quick price check to see how many potential buyers they could expect to attract if they are considering buying a project to flip in the resale market.
Unless they have been sitting on a big inventory for the past 10 years, or have been asked to liquidate a private collection, dealers comb the enthusiast boards looking for cars to buy and sell - it's better than spinning your wheels on Craigslist...

My opinion:

A hobbyist board is populated by like minded enthusiasts; searching for assistance, advice or guidance, sharing their enthusiasm as well as projects, bringing support and assistance to others while participating and contributing to the community in a positive manner......

versus

A commercial enterprise using the board purely for business reasons such as airing grievances or marketing products (some might say Magnus).......

This is not to say you can not do both, example; Wayne from Pelican, Dave from TRE, the gents from Unobtanium-inc. Based upon my dealings, these are Professionals, who are also enthusiasts that give back to the hobby not just benefit from the hobby.

Again: my opinion.

We can only hope you agree that Wayne could use this as a forum for business reasons because 1) He foots the bill for this whole thing, and 2) He owns the whole thing. :p

I've never been shy about the fact that I don't really care for businesses using Pelican to further their profits. Its part of why I post as myself instead of my business, which is Pcar based and even featured in Wayne's Boxster project book. It is a hobbyist forum, even if Wayne owns it and runs it to help increase his sales. In an era when IB/Penske have made all the enthusiast car sites a pay to play deal what Wayne offers us is a welcome alternative.

I've had people on RL talk shyte to/about me because I am a "user" and not a paying "member" Thats the other side. These idiots think you need to pay a few to the club to be a valid person. Businesses making a buck should pay a few to advertise. This thread is a very poor attempt to advertise a car. I'm still waiting for pictures before I personally place any value on this hypothetical car.
