Some excerpts... (sorry if the screen captures are huge, I'm on a 4k screen and it's hard to judge)

$56k for a 77 turbo, does that make sense?

I wasn't there, but I can only assume that one had some real issues.

Wow on the base 74.

I wonder if it was restored.

Low mileage , single owner, rare color means it's very collectible.

The 77 turbo is puzzling.

Real issues aside, for $56k theres a decent margin there after fixing it.

The 77 was roped off and not real easy to see when I was there, looked like chrome was pitting on wheels, maybe had some more issues not visible from 10 ft or so.

I did look at the black euro turbo, car was beautiful, pretty surprised it went that low, guy next to me agreed it would likely fetch a lot more than 99k, very very nice car. Although 930 prices seem all over the place anymore, all that aside the black euro was a very very nice example.

That it actually sold for that low and didn't have some head-in-the-clouds mystery reserve makes me think even the owner knew it wasn't going to bring megabucks, for whatever reason.

Not at as bad as results I thought but Mecum is always a BAD place to sell a Porsche and a good place to BUY a Porsche.

The fact the 77 went for $56,000 shows Mecum fails to bring informed buyers. That is a $100,000 car any day of the week. Period.

Looking at the pics the 77 930 was extremely rough.

- Missing a lot of its interior

-Paint was extremely bad condition

- 5 speed transmission

- Modded engine

Rough car.

The "believed to be" on the miles didn't help either.

" believed to be" is a usual description ( disclaimer) on many. Still very cheap @ $56K but if full resto @ $100K+++ at a resto shop is required?? Not that hard to spend that much on a car with the needs this one appeared to have if buying for more than a driver, not Concours. From my experience Mecum has lots of DIY buyers that like to restore cars. For a DIY driver/ keeper I'd say a very good " Mucum" deal. From my past experience Mega dealers sometime just blow off their trade ins or a seller is just done with wasting time to sell or fix and move on with some cash.

From that pic you can't tell but the paint was very bad.

The interior was horrible even in the pic you can see how tatty it was split seats ect. Keep looking at the pics and you will see it is missing the entire rear shelf. Just a very tatty car.

This car needs a new transmission as it has a 5 speed. They probably cut the tunnel to put it in so that will need to be fixed.

This car is a basket case. Probably needs $30,000 in work to bring it back to driver quality and $50,000 to show quality.

I believe if this car was all original nonmodded but complete and in the exact same condition it would have brought $90,000.

Yes modding these cars and missing the original parts is that detrimental to their value.

Have you tried to buy any 3.0 turbo parts lately?

Not always, I think it depends an which auction you participate in. Mecum got around $400K for a real 87 Porsche Kremer 935 street version, built by Kremer with supporting doc's. If and when I sell my" real " Kremer, Mecum will be a consideration. Some of his buyers are regulars on the auction circuit. And yes a decent restorable 77 930 for $56K also seems a good buy at this sale.

Mecum has a pretty decent internet presence and it's not like Houston is some two-horse hick town. There's no reason a savvy collector in California or Florida or New York (or Houston!) would have been unaware of the cars in that auction.

Your definition of basket case is very different to the rest of the known world. And the tunnel doesn't need to be cut to put a 5 speed 915 in a 930. The box is actually a little smaller.

That car was a GREAT buy, and not a lot of dollars to fix the cosmetic stuff.

For sure looked pretty nice for that price and a lot more for a diy'er. You can usually get a steal if you troll the auctions. I used to buy lots of nice Astons/Ferrari etc back in the day when they were escalating. I went to most of them in Ca AZ TX and others where the weather was nice most of the year, for inventory. Just got to be there and always got at least one , sometimes more. As I mentioned before Mega dealers spinning off cars that require time to get sold and private collectors cashing out and moving on and others just cashing in on something cluttering their life, among possibly other reasons. I didn't care, never asked or wondered why, a good deal is a good deal.
