Here is the AD…….
This gorgeous 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera is an incredible car that has always been maintained, and the impeccable amount of records illustrate its story from the beginning. The overall cosmetic condition of this 911 is extremely nice. The Guards Red paint is radiant and glossy, with no signs of dents or scratches. All the moldings, rubber trims, and gaskets are fresh, and the car is absolutely rust free. The car has never been in a accident and it does come with a spotless Carfax. The interior is in great shape and everything has been well preserved. The black leather seats are in a very nice shape, and both bolsters are scuff free. There are no cracks in the dash, no scratches on any of the instruments, and the car still has the lingering vintage smell that has always been a big part of the Porsche experience. All the electric gauges work properly, and the air conditioning system is fully charged and blows cold. Mechanically, the car is extremely solid as the top end rebuild has just been completed. The 3.2-litre engine is completely dry and everything ticks like a clock. The G50 gearbox does not miss a beat and the synchros in every gear feel good. The clutch engages properly and does not stick. The car handles excellent, and the brakes stop straight and true. The underside is still intact with its original floor pan, and the car has not been undercoated as there are no issues to be hidden. The factory optioned color matched Fuchs are in impeccable shape. These are the highlighted inserts from the service history: 7,732 – First documented service (7,500 mile maintenance) 14,962 – 15k mile service 45,693 – 45k mile service 47,209 – Battery 49,624 – Oil leak repairs, new oil lines 51,356 – 52.5k mile service 56,218 – Full oil service NR – Plugs, cap, rotor, wires 58,957 – Tires, brake calipers, pads, oil/filter 65,401 – Full oil service, valve adjustment 66,755 – Rebuilt AC compressor, AC drier, condenser fan 69,909 – Oil return lines, CV boots, oil/filter/seal ring 70,195 – Spark plugs 72,224 – Valve guides, new clutch, rings, oil pump 73,305 – Transmission mount 74,509 – G50 clutch upgrade kit installed 77,235 – Install r/side tensioner, clean cold start valve and adjust 78,691 – Full oil service 80,284 – Front brake calipers, brake pads, AC blower motor 82,002 – Alternator, battery, oil service 84,254 – Valve adjustment 87,523 – Major service (clutch, flywheel, throw out, pilot bearing, head sensor, etc) 91,618 – Shocks/structs, oil return O rings, tubes, rear bake pads, oil service 94,117 – Oil service 95,753 – Crankcase seal 98,422 – Oil change 100,898 – Distributor cap and rotor 101,053 – Bosch Platinum Plus spark plugs 101,119 – Idle control valve service 102,967 – Fuel pump 103,218 – Crankshaft sensors, speed & reference sensors 103,222 – Oil service, valve adjustment, lower valve covers 105,841 – Rear axle assemblies NR – Heater boxes 106,542 – Sway bar bushings, full oil service 108,695 – Polyurethane motor mounts, brake service 110,498 – Full oil service 110,895 – Top end rebuild, new head studs, & new A/C lines Overall, this ’87 Carrera is an outstanding car! Nice shaped G50, 3.2-litre coupes are becoming harder to find, and considering the impeccable amount of service records that come with this vehicle, will prove this to be a great investment for a Porsche enthusiast! A lot of dealer Hyperbole in this ad: impeccable (used three times), radiant and glossy, spotless, extremely nice, etc....

Seems like a pretty fair/accurate write up to me on that 87 911.
On the other hand you got jokers like this.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/909182-1988-rare-928s4-red-blk-excellent-ready-appraised-28-7k-buy-26200-a.html |

Since I do have your attention: What is an "impeccable amount" of paperwork? |

As far as "impeccable records" go.. Well, full 29 years of records with stash close 100 pages would make me think that's quite impressive.. But you tell me

I think I understand where Macroni was going with this tread.. And understandably so.
No sir, this is not the GENEVA FOREIGN car I wrote the upsetting tread about. That car is still in the shop getting work done, and is still lacking the "tons of records" and any evidence of "one owner" owning that car. Regardless, thank you for keeping up with my ads. Good to know I have a fan Have a great day |

It was a decently written ad, better than most. However I don't think "impeccable" means what the writer thinks it means.
According to my Concise Oxford... "faultless, exemplary." To say "an impeccable amount of records" is nonsensical. Fuchs wheels can certainly be in "impeccable shape" though. I agree a thesaurus may be in order as to use that word three times in a listing is a bit much. However, if the car is the same car as the one that was sold in Arbee's ebay link, it may be inaccurate to say "the car has never been in a accident." The seller in the ebay auction responded to a question about the car's history by noting "The repair records show that the car received a dent in the driver's door when it was new, but there is no sign of it now." So the car was damaged at some point. Whether this was an "accident" or not is anyone's guess at this point. Cheers d. ps Looks like a really nice car and a value-add flip, if I might put it that way.

Mulsanne,
An old friend of mine used to say that the truth needs no defense. Remember where things ended up last time? Walk away because prospective buyers can decide for themselves. It's a dealer's ad. It contains flourishes. Most dealers' ads do. No reason to take mocking them so personally. Mocking that ad doesn't mean the car is being mocked.

Hey Matt,
I believe OP thought this is the Geneva Car, and understandably tried to call me out on the write up.. Of course, this is a completely different car and I don't mind talking about it. The Geneva car is getting work done and will be advertised hopefully within 14 days. Regardless, I do understand your point and I am not planning to go on an angry rant anytime soon. However, I don't mind speaking about my cars time to time, and separate facts from fiction Cheers |

Maybe I missed something? I didn't get the feeling that this was regarding the other car. Seemed to me he was poking fun at your impeccable use of the English language. Not really, but just the hyperbole that seems to be unique to the used car game.
![]() I frequently visit your cars in various venues online and pine over many of them. Some pretty sweet rides. Some aggressive pricing that I believe you have little problem achieving. Quote:

Dont know a thing about the car but I dont get why the ad is being mocked by the OP. Yeah, the car has to be 90% to live up to that (which most dont when you take a closer look). But I dont see any need to make fun of the ad itself.

Yes, I started a thread with the idea of ridiculing mulsanne after the genevamotors thread on a very similar car (different interior color) using very similar terminology that he felt was so misleading......
In retrospect it was a stupid idea... and I apologize for wasting this valuable space and your time...... My opinion of the car is it is a guards red 1987 Carrera that appears to be in driver condition..... I would recommend inspection prior to purchase like I believe should be performed in all used car purchases. Last edited by Macroni; 04-29-2016 at 05:48 AM.. |
