Air cooleed 911s are assets.
About 4 years ago, my Honda was dying. So instead of buying another Honda, I bought 993 in a great condition. I was only around $30k for 993 2C and around $20k for 962 2C. Now, what happened? They became so expensive. I think that I can fetch $50 for mine. Until I realize how expensive my 911 was, I used to commute mine; putting 40 miles everyday. Now, I only drive once a week with my valuable 911. How do you feel about your appreciation of your 911? Do you think that the price reached the highest? I wonder if the 993 price will exceed new 911s in a decade or so.

Lol.
The guy who bought his 993 for 80k should be the one driving it once a week. The guy who bought his 993 for 30k should be driving it everyday. |

I still use mine to commute and grocery-get; what investor types have done to the current air-cooled market does not influence why I own the car or how I use it.

I want a $20k 962. I would totally drive that car daily.
In all seriousness I drive my cars. I don't think of them as assets. I'm not that rich. A Carrera GT or 918 is an asset. An air cooled 911 is a cool vintage car. If you can't "afford" to drive it, sell it and get something else. My 1986 911 is my father's only car.

911's are assets.
This is a proven fact. Like good real estate, a good asset should be held. I grew up driving 914's in the bay area as a kid. The house my MOM grew up in sold recently for $3.4 Mill in Palo Alto. The car my mom drove...1958 356 SC is worth at least a buck fifty. The point is...She could not afford her own house or car because they were sold off. Lesson...Time in the greatest resource. Buy and Hold people..Buy and hold..Sell when your too old to get to the PCA events. Experience exponential growth, that so many people miss out on with a quick flip . ![]() ![]()

Drive the car. I can't stand it when I hear stories of people buying up Porsches and putting them in storage as investments. Anything that breaks on the car can be fixed. Any rock chips can be painted. These machines are supremely good at driving, so please use it for its intended purpose!

I have driven every one of my cars...about 500 to 1000 miles a year.
Yo Rick you right about the good ones. You bought your 74 right when I sold mine ( Octo / 12 )I had a blk one. If the market goes soft I will buy another 74 911. fun, easy to fix. ![]() ![]()

Just drive/enjoy the car. The major appreciation has already happened in 2014/2015. Give us some details on your 993?

They spend most the time getting restoration work done.
My Turbo went in for a clutch and thousands of dollars later.. I ended taking the motor out, Ceramic Coating all the exhaust. Turbo rebuild , CVS, and on and on..ended up going through it top to bottom. Should be ready for the PCA Event in Mile Sq park..!

I did that last year ('08 Cayman S). Its over rated. The Cayman was very capable but its not an upgrade in my books. Each to their own.
