How about some info on this car and Complete 1967 Engine
I am looking at a complete 1967 911 engine. It is a non S engine, turns over easy, complete and literally dropped out of a car with transaxle, Webbers, original airbox, tins, exhaust, etc. Everything is stock 1967. It will need carbs built and seals but could probably be used as-is. The transaxle is a 902/02 5spd. Can someone give me a decent ballpark figure of what this may be worth?
The car is available as well but it has been modified with the typical flares and fiberglass front end pieces. At least it has steel rear flares. I was originally told it was an S engine because the VIN from the donor car fell between the 305101-308522 range. So my question is "What is a Cope S"? 911 Coupé et Coupé S 305 101 308 522 911 S Coupé (try) 310 001 911 S Coupé (try) 320 001 320 009 911 Coupé (4 places) 320 010 320 020 Last edited by karguy; 07-27-2016 at 07:37 AM.. You really just need to get the engine # off of the motor, it doesn't make any difference what the VIN was it came out of. Many of these cars have had motors go bad and then replaced with whatever was available. If you are sure it is a non-s engine then the engine number will be 6 digits and start between 911xxx and 912xxx. If it is an S engine then the number will start with 961xxx to 962xxx.
Engine number and type are on the right side of the fan housing stamped into the block. Type will likely be 901/06 for non S but If you are lucky and it's an S would be 901/02. Also the transmission you are looking at - 902/02 came out of a 68 912, so not originally from the car you speak of either most likely. Good luck.

Thank you JJK78-951 for the info. Yes, I didn't think it was a "S" model and I had decoded the trans and knew it came from a 912. My two questions centered on why the separate designation for a Coupe, a Coupe "S", and a 911S as stated on the data posted above. That and what the engine may be worth in a ballpark figure.

The next 3 lines are gibberish as Porsche never built any productions cars with those VIN numbers (although there may be special cars, rally, race etc which could have these, I don't know). The last 1967 Porsche 911 "S" has a vin of 308523S. In 1968 they changed to an 8 digit system so VINs are completely different. Value of the car is hard to say without pictures but based on the description I'd say $25K or so depending on how much original interior etc. are still there. Give or take. Regarding the motor, any idea when it last ran? If it turns over and wasn;t damaged when parked it will probably be OK so I'd peg a value of $12K-$15K based on basically core status. Prove it is a running motor and $15K should not be a problem. So based on description alone I'd ballpark around $40K but could be + or - 25% on condition. Hope this helps. J

It does help. Thank you. The car is a little on the rough side and disassembled so I was mainly focusing on the engine. The engine rab about three years ago and has been in dry storage since and turns over easily with the starter. I would have tried to fire it on the ground but it's not hooked up to the oil tank. But I am confident it would run.

The engine is a match to the VIN, so it might be worth the most $$$$ sold as a package.
