1973.5 911 T - Targa w/ SC Flares - Value?

Looking for guidance on price for a friend. 1973.5, 911T Targa. Black/black. 140k miles with prior engine work done but do not know the extent. Original owner installed factory SC flares (full panel) and changed doors to SC for power windows and mirrors.

Car has a new recent glass out paint in original color and newly recovered original recaro seats. 15 x 8 and 15 x 9 fuch rims. Dash has some cracks and aftermarket steering wheel.

Car pulls strong and handles well. Thoughts on price? Best way to position for sale? Thanks.

if the motor was rebuilt by moto-m's (red fan is their hallmark), it won't go well....and hot rod targa's are a tough sell, especially if the only hot-rod touch is the flares....I'd peg it around 40k if the paint is good and the floors aren't rusty

Paint is near a 10. Current owner owns a paint shop so this got 2 stage lacquer and undoubtedly a hundred hours of sanding. Engine bay is extra clean, it really shows nice. Not perfect, but a really nice car. Chrome is very clear and nice. 100% California car, no rust anywhere.

Not sure about the engine rebuild shop. I will try to get some more information on that shortly.

Thanks for the guidance.

Is the engine original to the car? Numbers matching or not is a huge difference in value, even for a modded car like this IMO.

So many people have done red fans over the years. The mm assumption on a red fan is often wrong.

Looks like a nice car. Where was it a year ago? I would have been a player. $45-50k is what I'm thinking.

Engine is not original - at least the induction system is later (cast runners). Red shroud makes me think it's an SC engine. Would be a good idea to photograph the engine number.

Car is pretty, but it's a super clean canyon carver type Targa, and I'm not sensing a lot of demand for those at the moment. So, maybe $30K.

Techweenie - great eye and resource, absolutely correct. Owner confirmed engine is a 3.0. Additional thoughts on price. Owner wants to sell but trying to get fair value. Thanks.

Is there no longer a premium for 73.5 over 69-71?

I think at $30,000 it is a steal and would sell quickly...... 3.0L is a great motor....... It appears to be a very nice car......I'm in the $40,000+ camp.

SC and Carrera Targas are selling between $30,000 and $45,000.

Doesn't need much....a dash and mirror replacements....

Question........ Fuch rims 15 X 8&9s or 15 X 7&8s?

Put it on BAT. A modded SC just sold for $37k. This car should fetch more no problem.

Without matching engine number, I would knock $5-10K off my earlier number, but still think this is a $40k car. I wouldn't start at anything less than that if writing an ad for you. You can always negotiate.

I believe the value in a 73.5 T was the 2.4 T engine with CIS, as opposed to the first half of 73 T's that had MFI. The CIS worked exceptionally well with the 2.4 T engine. A very wonderful combination.
Of course this car is missing that important piece, and some others, so I agree with Tectweenie it would make a great long hood "canyon carver" with the later bigger engine.
But It is just another modded long hood, and has the value of that, nothing more for being a 73.5 T.
By the way 8 (?) years ago I sold the stock nice running, complete to exhaust 73.5 T motor from a friends 73.5 T who had hot rodded his car with a bigger engine, for $900. It ran well, he just wanted a bigger motor and that is all they were worth back then.

CIS adds value over a MFI? No worries, i got 3 SC engines here, happy to swap em for those outdated 2.4S MFI engines no problem!

Bit lacking on reading comprehension on your part or poor writing skills on my part.
An SC is not a 2.4liter engine, An SC engine has a displacement of 3.0 Liter's and many other different characteristics from the 2.4 Liter, mag cased, 73.5 T engine. The 73.5 T engine was made for 6 months, the SC engine was made 6 years.
I can go on, but in a nut shell you are comparing 'apples to oranges' and you will always come up short making deals that way are trying to understand markets and desirability of things.
For instance, there is a large price point and desirability difference between a 73 S and a newer 74 S, even though to the casual observer they are both Porsche 911 S's of similar years.
Learning these subtle nuances is very helpful for understanding what seems like irrational behavior in the market.
So, yes a 73.5 T with CIS is worth more than a MFI T of the earlier part of the 73 model year.

Indeed. The 74 being far more desirable, of course

Well, I believe it would sell in the mid $30s if not flared. Also 'mirror replacement' means welding up holes in this case, which requires repainting the doors. And then theres the cost of a replacement dash pad & installation. Then you have the g-model seats... I do not think of these things as trivial.
