BaT Auction 1987 Turbo: questions.

1987 Porsche 911 Turbo | Bring a Trailer

I do not understand what happened here.....

The car was at a $55,000, then was bid to $56,000.
In the last minute a bid was entered at $66,666 this bid won the car.

Questions:

What was the strategy to the last bid?

How do you know if it is a no reserve auction?

Thanks,

Luke

No idea, but looks like a pretty nice driver for that price.

The fact that it is a colour change repaint really hurt it's sale.

Regardless, as a car to drive, that's well-bought.

I watched the red auction on BAT as well. From other BAT auctions I have observed, they will announce in the headline "No Reserve..." so I believe this car had a reserve, albeit quite low. I think the buyer did very well, wonder if he will bring back the original paint with the funds he "saved".

BaT Auction 1987 Turbo: questions.

This shows mods and nonstock hurts this 930 would have brought $75,000 + if not for the color change.

Actually, a modded 930 will put a serious hurtin' on a stocker - no ifs, ands or butts about that.

Thanks.

I am not certain this car was not fairly valued @ $67,000 given all the work done to it that went unexplained by the seller; Paint change, interior change and wheel change.

I should note I might have missed something.

Is it possible buyer knew where seller wanted to be, this would explain last bid.......

You can't snipe a BaT auction -- bids reset the clock.

There were 5 bidders at the $49k+ mark, including three in the last few minutes -- So maybe the 66,666 bid was a "knockout" attempt.

looks like it worked!

I tried to help a guy sell a modded 87 in original red a while back. Could *not* get $55K for it.

The typical 930 buyer is highly allergic to mods - even reversible ones.

All in with buyers premium the car cost the buyer a shade below $70k. I think thats about fair value for the car. Decent buy and a decent sale for what it is.

I know we all hope for it, but it would be nice if prices came back down to that range. I thought the auction ended at what I would price it at, but I was still shocked that it did not reach the 70's. Was hoping someone here grabbed it.

Agree- COA says it was originally Granite Green with Champagne (Tan) interior which was a pretty rare combination- the color change to Guards Red is bad enough but the change to Gray interior is overkill but as the old saying goes there is an ass for every seat.

It's not too easy anymore if you're looking for a 930 you can drive, that also has good mechanics and looks sharp, and isn't being listed at $80-90k+. Someone who isn't a stickler for originality and just wants a cool 930 to drive could do worse than that ride at that price, IMO.

No doubt about the ass/seat rule - I'd take Guards Red over Granite Green any day of the week and twice on Sunday (don't care either way about the interior color - would prefer it in black, however).

^^^ Did you watch the video ?

The "freeway" drive cracks me up, a 930 stuck in the slow lane because the "fast lane" is filled with your standard SFBay Prisuses and SUVs.

I must be too slow to find the vid - I see where it says "video provided by seller" butt don't see any video link or anything.

Butt, the dude stuck in the slow lane means he doesn't know how to pinball like a real turbo powa' driver!

Whoops - ya' I had the oppisite problem going on; computer was still set on "show only trippleX videos" mode!

Yep, that vid is really only good for showing that the car runs and drives at low RPM - I don't think it ever went above 4K (and only there very briefly), so no demonstration at all of the mighty boost (stock turbocharger barely spinning at that RPM - but then peters out soon after . . . not a good performer and hard to believe anyone still has those in service).

That car is another example of the a mod approach that is strange to me - change the exterior color and interior, butt leave the stock intercooler, exhaust, turbocharger, etc.?!?!

if you read thru the commentary there was many a poster lamenting the loss of granite green... rare colors seem to bring the money

what facilitated a complete color change IN and out ? had me worried. flood, salvage, theft ?

bought for the price of a new suburban.....
