You can see the softening in the market in the BaT auctions.

Look at the auctions that closed today and Friday.

More percentage of "Reserve Not Met" than ever. It's really a large number.

BaT tries to prevent Reserve Not Mets by forcing a "lowball" reserve (I know, I've gone through it with them).

And, historically, in the rising market they were pretty good with their estimates. The vast majority of their auctions met reserve.

But even their low reserve numbers aren't low enough for the realities of the declining market. They are now behind the curve on the decline. Thus the high number of Reserve Not Mets.

They, like everyone else, need to recalibrate their numbers.

You just need to be careful about phrasing it as "the market for average cars is declining," so you aren't bombarded with anecdotes about a guy whose buddy totally just sold his 5,000-mile 964 C4 for $200k the other day.

Wouldn't 5000 miles relegate that car to basketcase, beater status requiring $25K plus to make right?!?!?!

Isn't declining fast enough. I want my no-rust, all original # matching condition 2.5 Irish Green 356 for $50k, and I want it now.

Shyte. I want one for $18,500 like they used to be for a 64 SC when I got into this thing. Still holding out for my neighbor to sell me his B coupe that needs a top end engine job. But so far he won't even let me in the barn.

The way people talk about color on cars really lets me know I am missing something, because I must be so color blind, I just do not get 'it'

Head studs replaced, if done right (big if) it's actually a pretty good thing, no?

IckyFicke, I understand how some people like certain colors more than others, butt what I don't get is how car color supposedly plays a role in what a car is worth (the whole "it's a desirable, flesh tone, fecal matter, or shrubbery color, so the car as a whole is worth more") - that is bizzarro to me.

I wasn't referring to you, Phat - I don't recall you making a "worth more because looks like some color the dog barfed up" statement.

No, I really am color blind. I really do not see much difference between greens and red and blues.
I know cars are visual things to many people and that is why car shows or so popular, but I am 'blind' to it.
Maybe that is why I pretty much see cars as dynamic things that need to be enjoyed while in motion, and do not get much out of the static visual thing with them. Like car shows and such.
I go to them, but I really do not 'get' it.
Just my view. Nothing more.

I'm with you. I can understand a collectors piece being worth a whole lot more due to a super rare color but people paying huge premiums on run of the mill/driver condition air-cooled 911s is quite funny. Imagine if Guards Red or Black was only a PTS color offered from Porsche in the 80s.

I like the poop colors but would never buy one. I stick to the Skittles colors; blues, greens, oranges, and yellows in particular.
