71 T Targa Conda Green
This car just sold on BAT for $57k plus a 5% buyer's fee. Sure seems like a great deal to me. What am I missing?

Looks nice apart from the "refurbed" (rattle canned) heat exhangers. Good price.....who knows?

I think it sold appropriately.
Here is a rough analysis of the early 911 market on BaT for the last six months. May 2016 1970 T Coupe project.....$15,000 1971 E Coupe..... $93,000 1971 T Coupe..... $43,000 1971 E Targa..... $65,000 June 2016 1973 T Targa.....$60,000 1968 Coupe..... $60,000 1971 T Coupe..... $36,000 July 2016 1972 S Coupe..... $72,000 1968 Coupe..... $130,000 August 2016 1968 Coupe..... $79,000 1970 T Coupe..... $77,000 (No sale) September 2016 1970 T Coupe..... $66,000 (No sale) 1971 T Targa..... $60,000 1970 T Targa.... $52,000 October 2016 1973.5 T Coupe..... $55,000 1971 T Targa..... $57,000 Analysis 5 Targas sold; Highest price car was a 1971 E for $65,000. A 1973 2.4 Targa sold for $60,000. The other 3 were 2.2L Ts with the high selling for $60,000 the low for $52,000. IMO, this 2.2L Targa sold competitively given the other comparison points in a similar timeframe. The surprising element to me was the color did not receive a premium. so a non matching numbers LWB 911T is worth 40k? assuming no rust and decent paint for a driver quality car?
that 71T at 36k seemed like a screaming deal or are we heading that way in the marketplace? |

If you are referring to the 71 T coupe that sold on 6/30/2016 for $36k there was a lot wrong with that car:
1. Run in with a deer 2. Color change from gold to silver 3. Rust bubbles showing in the paint work 4. "Updated" interior etc... 1971 Porsche 911T Coupe | Bring a Trailer

is a running driving Longhood only worth mid 30's? thats the point I'm trying to make. i know it did not have matching number transmission and all the things you mentioned. the rust bubbles appeared to only be in one spot and the front pan, rockers and floors looked great. i mean hell, 912/6's are selling for low to mid 40s so wouldn't a non matching numbers 911 be worth more in similar condition? |

Minor detail but Porsche goofed on the COA listing date of build as 1971 but should have been 1970. Very pretty car.
