Two different things a play here, Two different markets.

For NA 911s/S/SC/Carrera
I think it's as simple as these air cooled 911s are the finest, purest, aesthetically perfect, porsche that will ever be.

For the 930
I think the 930 were always going to become highly collectible due to that fact they were elite status in the supercar world.

The original group included ( poster cars )

Lamborghini Countach
Ferrari 512 bbi
De Thomaso Pantera

And later included the Testarossa.

The 930 could out accelerate them all and nearly as high top speed.

I think this original group of super cars are league to themselves.

Agreed completely. While in production, they were up there with the best and auto mags and enthusiasts loved them. In 2009, though, they were used cars from the 80s and not at all Ferrari-tier collectibles at that point, at least among the snobby cognoscenti who have oddly changed their tune in the last 3-4 years. Obviously there were exceptions and rare models and 2000-mile garage queens and all that, but I'm only talking about the general vibe of the marketplace being reflected in their shameful bargain bin pricing, where you could feasibly cross-shop a 2-year-old Honda Accord with a 930. Or, just think about all the beater 930s out there compared to beater Ferraris and Lambos.

Likewise, I remember from around the same period Ferrari guys thumbing their noses up at the Testarossa for being too flamboyant, too common, with ugly 80s styling.

Cheap 930

I think the Testarossa is one the most beautiful cars to come from Pininfarina.

It can be driven every day, it's very comfortable car to drive, ice cold AC.

Today it looks as beautiful as ever, it's aged well, 6 foot wide rear end is simple awesome.

But then I'm at child of the 80s and remember all these 80s supercars.

They were correct then and correct now. That is a ugly car and will be seen as a gaudy ugly car in the future.

Man, some of you guys sure are sensitive. It's an internet forum folks, chill out.

I much rather appreciate Squirrel's (lol) auction summaries than 930XX-whatever's all turbos are 150k+ cars mantra.

I think not..

It's looks are stunning from all angles. The car is unraveling at all angles so it hard to stay focused on just one part of the car.

It's beautiful

It is a Ferrari that only could have come from the concept of form following function.

Not saying you aren't right about pricing leveling off. They needed to after a 300% increase.

But on eBay prices are higher than ever.

Strangely I'm seeing the exact opposite. Loads of 930s with BIN prices in the range of $70-115k just collecting dust and constantly relisted with no price adjustment.

That's inline with pricing today. For nice cars.

The owner of this junkyard 930 contacted me right before listing on eBay. He wanted $25k. I told him it was a $10-15k car, missing literally everything of any value. I passed and said I don't think I could even pay $10k with so much gone. He offered to take $7k and a nice trailer, and I still passed. I think it ended up at $14,800. It will need $70k of parts and resto to be a non-matching number, $60k car. Hopefully someone can save it.

Even a non matching number fully restored car is going to be worth $80,000+ this being a 79.

That's correct, however if the buyer has someone else do all the work, more than likely he'll be WAY upside down. That car needs wiring redone and every square inch touched or replaced. Just my .02. I own a '78 2 owner 930 with important provenance, with 17,500 documented original miles, worth slightly more than $80k. : )

Screw, Squirell, whatever your name is, it is a idiotic statement to say a 930 or turbo car was never all that special from that era. Yes I own one and do not think it is the Holy Grail of cars. C'mon, this site has a forum dedicated to them, hundreds of articles over the years. It was the super car of the day, a very iconic car.

Price wise, like all P cars of that era, had a serious run up, but things seemed to have leveled back down, and quiet a bit higher than where that run up started. Nice old school turbos will always be special. "never all that special" Tool.

Guys, play nice. I remember in the early to mid 90's, I could buy SC's & '70s 911 turbos in the teens. About the same price as 944 turbos. IMHO that made them 'not very special'.......

Umm.. You have a 78 930 with 17,000 miles and you only want $80,000....

#1 either your very uninformed as this is a $100,000 + car all day long.

#2 your trying to currently buy a 78 930 with 17,000 miles
