Scam?

Hi, I have had my race car for sale here on Pelican and elsewhere for some time. This morning (3:46 AM!?) I received an email from a very interested part (too interested?). Here is what he wrote, my response and his latest reply below. Apparently he is out of state. What is the best way to proceed with this transaction or is this a scammer? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Thanks for the response..I am good with the price but i want you to know that i will be using a bank check as mode of payment and i will wait for it to clear in your bank before the pick up, concerning the shipment a private shipping company will come for the pick up at your location..So get back to me if you accept my mode of payment with your full name , address , city , state and zip code also include your phone number.I will be waiting for the details so that the payment can be mail out you as soon as possible..

Thanks,
Edward..

Hello Edward,

Where did you see the car advertised? I have owned the car since 1994. It currently has a brand new engine with just 2 hours of tuning on it. I am currently asking $39K or $38K without the trailer and spare parts. Here is a brochure on the car with a link to many photos:

That is a scam artist. Tells:

-cut-and-paste phrasing ("...your 1969 Porsche 911 GT Race Car with 3,4L Race Engine")
-odd syntax ("the unit", also the above)
-no reference to the car itself or where he saw it advertised, no questions, comments on details
-immediate reference to payment method.

You need a legal guardian. No offence. I will take on the task for one nice Porsche a year! It is a very good deal!

He sends you the check. "oh I sent it for too much, can you wire me back the balance and keep $500 for your troubles". You wire back the balance. His check turns out to be bad and you're out whatever you sent back to him.

Thank you to all who responded. I will not be replying to that scam artist again. Now, would any of you legitimate folks like to buy a race car for pennies on the dollar?
